Finally finished installing and testing the waters online.

Added modes:
Practice
Survival
Online

The Online mode is very robust, with scorekeeping, and really good matchmaking. Lag is occasionally an issue when one side or the other has a bad connection, but it's generally very playable.

Well worth the $9.99 upgrade!

I got the game and I think its great that we can finally play online with other players around the world, woohoo! I did notice there was an issue with the speed of the connection and lagging but its very minimal and hopefully they'll make improvements since the game just came out. i just got it, but i cant seem to join any room, keeps saying network error then jumps back to title screen :S

Anyone else experienced this?

I'm planning on buying the online upgrade to add to my tekken DR. generally fighters and any other type of games seem to lag a hel of a lot more than FPSs for some reason, but if you got a good connection and playing with people that also have a good connection & the servers are also stable, you should have no problems at all

Sounds like some sort of firewalling issue. Do you use a router or connect via some wonky internet connection like a University network?

There's a free patch coming (March 18th in Japan at the very least) to improve the online interface and more but I haven't seen a good translation yet so make what you can of this:

The free update adds new modes and gameplay fixes to the game.

• Pickup Match Mode: a mode where you continually face off in one-on-one matches without having to got through a matching room. You can set conditions to search for an opponent, then battle the same opponent repeatedly, or have the computer search for new opponents following each match.
• Dual Shock 3 rumble support
• You can now create and display names for rooms
• Adjustments to allotment of points when winning and losing battles
• "Flag" option added to room creation and searching, allowing you to create and search for rooms that have been flagged with specific conditions
• Players who are waiting for their turn to fight will be alerted via sound effects and rumble when the time has come.
• When Rank Match has been set to off, your win/loss is no longer recorded and you do not earn battle points.

The update will be available to owners of the Japanese version of Dark Resurrection on March 18 starting at 1:00PM. To access it, you'll simply have to start up the game.

but is it worth getting if i plan to get tekken 6 (which i will search on in a few when the release date is)

It is good to get in practice. I know there are going to be differences, but it's still great practice. Plus, Jinpachi isn't in 6 (apparently)

Jinpachi needs to just go away. I don't know what Namco Bandai was smoking when they created him, but a character with a fast unblockable mid ranged stunning attack, absurdly fast recovery time, and several 70%+ combos is just unnecessary in a competitive fighting game, even as an end boss, let alone as a playable character.
