I wanted to post a comment but apparently the page's script prevents me from doing so:

Here's what I wanted to post:

Your conclusion, that the best HD strategy for the optical format is for studios to publish in both formats, is myopic. The argument about Casino Royale Nielsen's number as compared to The Departed, Superman Returns or Happy Feet can be simply deduced as early adopters buying movies that their format supports.

Since the Warner releases are in both formats, logically the Nielsen's number is higher on all three of those Warner titles. However, if there is only BD and Warner release only in BD, the number would be the sum of these two formats. This argument also works if BD never existed.

Supporting two formats, which Warner and Paramount do, is a myopic strategic move. It only prolongs the war to the detriment of both optical formats. Regular people are unlikely to adopt these formats in droves.

It is really up to Warner, Paramount or Universal to shorten the duration of this war. Warner and Paramount need only to commit to BD to change the outcome. Similarly Universal only need to support BD to turn the tide and gain the general public's confidence that the war is over.

The studios have a lot to gain if they only make the right decision. Hopefully the executives make the call before it is too late.

Where exactly are the HTML code, expletives or common SPAM terms in the comments?
