The story/characters/acting were so awful I was praying for the monsters to kill every last person on the planet. The action contained almost zero excitement. I was severely disappointed with Pacific Rim.

Cloverfield doesn't have Charlie Hunnam "yell-acting" for 2 hours. That alone makes Cloverfield far superior to Pacific Rim.

PR is nothing like Cloverfield. Cloverfield is a found footage movie that takes place in NY. While PR is an action movie set in many different parts of the world.

I enjoyed both, but Cloverfield is the better film. One of my favorites of all time. It was terrifying the first time I saw it in the theater.

I very much love both films. They're excellent for different reasons, but I'm sure they'll make a great triple feature down the line with the original 'Godzilla'. I look forward to that night.

I think Pacific Rim is head and shoulders above Cloverfield in terms of overall quality and the genuine love it was crafted with, but I appreciate Cloverfield for what it is. It's fun and fast, and made great use of its budget.

I liked both, but I prefer Cloverfield. I'm a sucker for found footage movies, and the idea of one taking place during a Godzilla-esque attack was just too amazing to pass up. The acting was pretty good, the special effects were great, and the set design was top notch. And I liked that you only see glimpses of the monster, the whole less-is-more thing that goes back to the shark in Jaws. Honestly, I found that more terrifying and effective than a monster tap dancing in front of a megazord.

And while I liked PR, most of the time it seemed like the actors were acting exclusively in front of a green screen, including the non megazord scenes.

Cloverfield is more terrifying. Pacific Rim is more fun.

Although the Tokyo scene of Pacific Rim is super tense and scary as hell!

Haven't you noticed half the people on here are 100% correct on all their opinions?

Obviously you haven't been paying attention...

But New York isn't in the Pacific

Also in Cloverfield it is suggested that the Moster comes from space.

Where as Pacific Rim tells us that the Kaiju come from another dimension.

I personally think it would be best to leave each film in it's own universe.

Can't wait for Godzilla next year. The teaser trailer gave me an erection.

I hate Charlie Hunnam's acting, and most of the acting ftm in PR. I wasn't a huge fan of Cloverfield either though. PR did have some cool fights but that's about it.

I know it doesn't bother some, but bad acting kills a movie for me.

Yeah, it's weird and pretty lame, but harmless.
