I wish to make a minor comment. I would add few sand bags to the bottom of the stand inside the PVC tubes. I will seal sand in plastic bags so that it wouldn't leak. This will add to the weight and also to the stability of the stand. I would add metal spikes to the stand but some people may not like it.

Great minds think alike, sync! As I was looking thru the pics, I was thinking he needed some weight to keep them from tipping. Filling the PVC with sand would be great. Like you mentioned, needs to be sealed in some way to avoid having the sand seep out. Was wondering if there's a way to add a mounting screw to the top of the stand to keep the speaker from getting knocked off. That might help too.

With the price of speaker stands, that certainly is a great idea!
