Im okay with the casting but is his sister Sue going to be black or white? And if she's white, are the filmmakers even going to explain how they are brothers and sisters or leave it up to our imagination (Johnny is adopted, or the parents are mixed).

This is the meat of the matter and we all know that. I'm honestly hoping this doesn't go through. At least with the Amazing Spider-Man they are going with a Ultimate Universe(I think?) spin on things and being true to the character. I usually don't have a problem with creative licensing, but the casting doesn't make much sense. Too young and wrong race. Reminds me of when they made Billy Dee Williams Harvey Dent and then dismissed it by the 3rd film.

I agree on Richard, but the other two aren't that far off depending how it lands. Both Evans and Alba were only 24 when the last movies were shot and some of the people auditioning are right in line. Mara is 30 even.

Or maybe this is just me REALLY hoping this doesn't end up set at a school.

Jordan getting the role of the Human Torch would be a no go for me. nothing against him but to change the origins of the characters that much doesn't make any sense to me.

I must have missed the origin story where they explained why Johnny was White.

The movies are not the 616 comic universe. Changes are made constantly for films.

A character being a different skintone doesn't typically change an entire character's history.

Same here Fox is just changing things for the **** of it.

I have my F4 movies for now, I'll just wait until the rights expire and revert back to Marvel and Disney.

I'm sorry but Johnny Storm should not be black. I've been saying this since I first heard the rumor. If they want to change a character's race change The Things or Mr. Fantastics. Leave the Storms alone.

But again... why not?

Johnny's skin color/melanin count was never an important plot aspect of his character.

It doesn't change who the character is in any significant manner.

The core aspect of the character was the kid brother who could ignite on fire and fly.

It's no more a big deal than changing the fact that they're not trying to beat the Russkies to the moon.

Well this is an interesting development. If changing the race isn't a big deal for the other two, why does it bother your for Johnny Storm?

Don't want to be that guy, but everyone who has an issue with the race change, frankly this is going to keep happening. Most of these characters were created back in the 60s where creators didn't care about diversity, so now when Hollywood studios start adaptating these properties, they're going to notice how un-diverse the cast is and start making changes.

It wasn't so much that those creators didn't care about diversity...

But back in that era... you'd kill your potential sales especially in the South with a move like that.

As there would be boycotts and protests of any newstands or stores that would sell such material.

Comic Books had a hard enough time thanks to the "Seduction Of The Innocent" nonsense.

I have nothing against changing the race of certain characters, but doing it here makes little sense. It just complicates matters unless they get a black actress to play Sue. If they do that, then no big deal.

Why would they need to? There's other options than Sue has to be Black.

There's adoption. Sue being the product of a 1st marriage. And so on.

Then you're changing more than just their race. Changes here and there are fine with a character's origin, but to completely change everything about them is a little much. Why add complications like that just for the sake of hiring the actor? He's good, but there's other actors they could get as well.
