I just bought my 805 April 8th and not a single problem. I wouldn't believe the hype about flames snap crackling and popping it does have a 2 year warranty.
I bet the 606 doesn't matrix the nex gen audio codecs the 605 didn't. This is where I got my receiver, they were great! Heres the link for the 705 http://store.wholesaleav.com/ontx71chhoth1.html |

As a warning I had an 805 (tried 3) (the 705,875, and 905 all were affected). They had an audio delay which could easily been noticed if you had the TV speakers on at the same time there was an echo (The delay was noticed by about half the owners but and about half of those were not bother but it did bother me and about and half of the other owners that noticed the delay that participated in a poll over at AVS). My previous Onkyo and the 605 did not have this problem. I would assume that problem would have been fixed with these new models as many people had informed there costumer service people, So I plan on getting an 806. By the way there was a huge difference in sound between the 805 and 605 the 805 was so much more powerful. Last year you could find the 605 at launch for $400 if you shopped around and the 805 for $800. I would wait for the 806 or get and 805 if you decide the 705 is better than the 606. The price difference between the 705 and 805 is about $100 from what I have seen around my area and its definitely worth that difference. |

I just ordered a 705 for $523.65 from Amazon. I'm comfortable with amazon so an extra 20 bucks I can deal with.

They have an Amazon storefront, so you would need to call Amazon to ask them if Onkyo products bought from WholesaleAV are covered by Onkyo's official warranty.
That's what Onkyo suggests doing. They don't list all authorized dealers on their website. |

Here's a few key differences some may appreciate: 24/192 signals 705 24/192 PCM - 2 channel only 24/192 TrueHD - 2 channel only 24/192 dts-ma - accepts 24/96 only 606 24/192 PCM - accepts multi-channel 24/192 TrueHD - accepts multi-channel 24/192 dts-ma - accepts 24/96 only* * - the PS3 will convert 24/192 dts-ma to 24/192 PCM, which is accepted by the 606 but not the 605 DSD>PCM conversion @ 24/176.4 705 - process 24/176.4 as 24/88.2 606 - accepts 24/176.4 |

If it's for majority HT usage I'd go with the 705.
If you listen to a lot of music I'd go with the 606, particularly if you listen to SACD's through HDMI on a unit like the PS3. On the other hand, if you listen to SACD's with a player capable of DSD-output, like the Oppo-980H, the 705 accepts a DSD signal, but again it doesn't have DSD>Analog like the 8xx and 9xx series do. There's not a lot of difference between the two in power, despite one getting THX certification. |

It all about listening to music alot through multichannel.
This is what i found in my 705... If the audio is an sterero 2channel then it will play in stereo even if it was multi channel or surround modes (such as Pro Logic IIx, Neo:6, THX 7.1)... if using HDMI If the music is 5.1, then it will play music in 5.1 even it if was multi channel or surround modes (such as Pro Logic IIx, Neo:6, THX 7.1).... if using HDMI Again. if it is stereo and you wanted to hear in surround sound... just change your PS3 Audio setup to Audio Connector.. you know Left/Right input instead of HDMI connection... then you can hear 2-channel to 5.1 or 7.1 with any surround modes. If using RCA Composite Audio Connector This is a secret tip that i can help you getting 705 instead of 606 or 605. Last edited by lildon24; 04-24-2008 at 05:27 PM. |
