Is this Blu-ray safe to buy? I'm scared of not getting the remastered release.

That doesn't answer my question.

No. Even after four years, all new pressings even the ones Warner does for Paramount still run the risk of being the old master.

Be warned, once that disgusting demon master was birthed... it could not be contained nay could it be destroyed. Like the evil in the killer video, it lies wait for some unsuspecting soul to buy it. Even ten years from now, it will continue to be a plague upon us.

Do not buy Gladiator, EVER... you don't want the evil possibly entering your home.

What's wrong with you? It was an innocent question.

According to my doctors, a lot.

[Show spoiler]
and here's the answer you want: just buy it. There's a slim chance, very slim, in other words, you'll have to live in the countries where Universal decided to not provide new remasters to end up with it.

Warner is only being provided the remastered elements for repressing and distribution. If it says Warner buy it, end of story especially since it has been four years since the old master was distributed to outlets.

I double dipped this about 3 years ago from Amazon. That release was the corrected version. IIRC, the original release had a yellow bar code on the back cover and the new release has a white bar code. The information on distinguishing between the two is buried somewhere in this thread.

Have fun on the scavenger hunt.

In all seriousness you should be safe with this release.

It was the other way around. The yellow barcode indicated that it was the new remastered release.

Another clue for his scavenger hunt.

(IIRC)....So I didn't remember correctly. My love affair with tequila at that period in my life blurred my memory abit.

What is the easiest way to tell if I have the remaster once I receive it?

You can find all the information in the previous page.
Apparently in the remasterd version the title in the film remains black (and doesn't change to gold).

I assume this applies to the European Blurays too, right?

Yep, in the territories Universal decided to release the remastered presentation to. Same goes for other countries.

But beware, last year on it's 100th Anniversary Universal released Gladiator on Digibook. Although I already had the US Saphire series BD, I decided the Digibbok looked cool and cheap enough to buy it. I was the remastered version, but to my surprise, looked worse than the US Saphire series. First I checked the codecs, and both were AVC. Then I paid more attention to the US BD to see traces of edge enhancements or tweaking, I noticed none, picture was just more detailed on the US BD than on its European counterpart, and not a subtle difference.
Then I separated both version of the movie with the English track on DTS-HD Master Audio intact with DVDFab.
The US file of the movie was bigger I don't remember how much as this happened over a year ago.
Then I went further, with TSMuxer, I demuxed (separated the two tracks of the movie file, one with only the video and a second one with only the audio) both files the US and the European sourced files. On the US version, video took more space, not much for a movie that long, the US video part was around 4 Gig bigger. I suspect is not only size what matters, My theory is that better coding and more care was paid on the compressing of the Gladiator BD.
Actually, most Paramount encoding and authorings are made by Panasonic, while Universal uses Deluxe for their BD compressing and authoring.
I just thought this info could be useful to somebody thinking about buying Gladiator on BD and not know what version or country of origin buy it from.
So, US BD of Gladiator looks better, crispier, more detailed, in a nutshell, it's better.

Gladiator is actually done by Deluxe worldwide, that's who provided my replacement disc.

Universal produced the BD for themselves and Paramount, then when it had to be remastered... Universal handled that too for themselves and Paramount.

Unlike the US and Canada though, Universal only offered free replacements to limited territories. The remastered release was quietely released to nearly all territories handled by Universal but a majority of comaumers had to buy it again to get it.

You maybe right, I don't doubt it, but the video encodes are different and in fact look different. 4 Gigs of difference between the video track of the US release against 4 Gig less of the European release are an evidence, computers don't lie. There's not much of a difference and even less for a long movie (even longer with the extended version) and are not gonna make a huge difference, but they are there and are not subtle to my eyes.

Alright I got it in the mail, it is a white UPC with 2 Disc set printed above the Paramount logo on the lower right hand corner of the back cover. The code on the feature disc is NA13081B1R2. Am I good?

You should be all set.
1B1R2 is the remastered disc.
1B1R1 then it's the old disc.
Hope that helps!

And when you watch it, if the title screen looks like this, you can relax and enjoy the show...

That's in contrast to this one (which is the first pressing)...
