I was looking at the release list for the next couple of months and there isn't even a single Fox title on the list. What's going on? Why are they leaving the rest of the Blu-ray studios out there to dry? Do they really think the new copy protection is going to make a difference? I'm sorry but this is very dissapointing and a huge blow to the format. I was really looking forward to some of their classic releases for May and June. After all the talk at CES they really dropped the ball.

I can't blame them for waiting if it is the copy protection problem. The true push towards HD is months/years away. So they are in no hurry. Hopefully they will release a hundred movies all at the same time.
![]() There are some good movies still available without Fox's new releases. |

You're right, they need to just get back on the saddle.

I believe there are two more levels of copy protection to be added. Hopefully they will start releasing again when the first level is ready. |

AACS is fixed already. Fox is waiting for BD+ to get ready too...
Soon it will. |

We all better hope the BD+ is a good and secure copy protection. I get the feeling that 20th Century Fox would never release movies in any HDTV format unless it is 100% secure. If a hole in the security is found again in an AACS player then 20th Century Fox might decide to only release movies on DVD. I can not blame them. 20th Century Fox owns the movies and they do not want 1080P HDTV movies one day available for free to anyone that has a hard drive or BLU-RAY burner.
Hackers could kill both the HD-DVD and BLU-RAY format since some studios if the pirating of HDTV movies gets bad enough, then they will only release movies in the 480I DVD format until a secure HDTV format is developed. BD+ hopefully will be the solution. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 04-29-2007 at 04:02 PM. |

And as to what you said it makes no sense. Even FOX must realize eventually whatever copy protection they use will eventually be hacked. It hasn't stopped them from releasing day and date titles, they just pulled all their catalog titles until BD+ is updated. That's the one good thing about BD+ is that it can be modified on the fly. A pain for us because it makes us wait longer for titles we want, but that's the game now we're going to play until the hackers figure a way to get past all the keys and makes all of BD+ updates irrelevant. |

Facts are there, the top 4 movies from last year are from FOX & Disney, and the 5th is Sony. Universal does not appear until #18. This year again, 4 of the top 10 so far are from FOX, Disney, & Sony, with Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, and The Simpsons added in as blu-ray exclusives this holiday season. Universal right now this year holds #13 as the highest hd-dvd exclusive. If FOX hurries & releases movies, then those cheap Wal-Mart players have no chance. But if FOX & Disney keep holding off... |

As long as they get big titles and plenty of them in time for the holiday season, all will be well.

From everything I've read, those cheap Wal-Mart players are basically a non-issue. If they exist at all, the true translation seems to imply Blu-Ray. But they apparently don't exist at all, as the company rectracted their statement.

Question: Is the current copy protection that is in Blu-ray movies the same or similar to HD DVD movies? If so, was anything announced from the HD DVD camp to add an extra layer of copy protection similar to BD+?
My assumption is no, the red camp is not trying to improve the copy protection. If that is true then this is just another advantage for the blue camp with respect to how the movie studios view protecting their HD content. ![]() |
