My roommate has a Wii and I have a PS3, so I've played both a lot. Although the Wiimotes are a cool innovation, they still have their faults. They don't always connect to the Wii and you can only connect them at specific points in the game; in Tiger Woods, the controllers are sporadic and will make you swing or take a half swing without doing anything; and they suck up batteries and can only be recharged with a $40 third-party add-on kit. In my opinion the only reason the Wii controllers got so much hype is because Nintendo advertised them better because they are the only thing that sets the Wii apart from the other two systems. My roommate just got Super Paper Mario, and although the game play kind of cool, the graphics could have been done on the 64 (the main boss is simply a triangle with a other shapes on him to give him a face) and there is no dialogue (all text). To me the Wii just has a lot of publicity surrounding it because of its price point and because of the gimmics they have been advertising with the controllers. Once you get down to it, the games are really pretty crappy. Sure there aren't that many PS3 games out and everyone seems to be complaining about that fact but if you look past the gimmicky controller of the Wii, you basically have a whole bunch of C- games that were rushed to market just to be out. The Wii games I have played seem to be put out simply to make use of and to display the capabilities of the Wiimotes. Not a single one of them has shown any depth, a decent plot, or anything that blew me away. As for the part in the article about the controllers being better for new gamers because they allow more than just button mashing, the author obviously has never seen anyone play boxing on WiiSports because all that is is flailing the controller every which way, and half the time the Wii doesn't even register your punches.
On a sidenote, I was at EB Games and the salesman was telling some poor kid how the 360 is superior to the PS3. He gave him such "facts" as: the power supply is in the PS3 which causes it to overheat all the time, the 360 makes use of 1080p in all of its games whereas the PS3 does not, and there are no games really coming out for the PS3 that won't be on the 360. Having owned a 360 prior to my PS3, the salesman was an idiot. My 360 overheated and locked up about every time I played it. My PS3 on the otherhand, has been kept on for multiple days straight and still runs as quite as a mouse. OK, I'm done ranting. |

I would also have to disagree that just because you buy a 360 doesn't mean you'll have overheating problems, disc scratching, the famous red light flash, etc...
There’s more than on game that’s 1080p on the Xbox 360, according to the back of Xbox 360 game cases.[/QUOTE] I know, but the 360 is much more prone to hardware malfunctions than the ps3. and i can count the games on one hand that can play in 1080p on a 360. i doubt we will see that many in the future, as their trademark game, halo 3, is not going 1080p. |

My first 360 died on me about 8 months into owning it, it was a launch unit. My 2nd one is fine so far and gets heavy use. My cousin is on his 4th 360, if it wasnt for NBA2K7 online, he wouldnt put up with this crap, but he is addicted to the game.

The PS3 controller is smaller and lighter than the PS2. A common criticism is it feels cheap .However it can withstand punishment.
Your hands will cramp when trying to use it for something like GP2 using manual shifting. The buttons are pressure sensitive so you find yourself mashing yoiur thumb down hard just like the PS2. The end resiult is just like the PS2, a cramped hand with a very sore thrumb. Not fun. The ability to change the controls to something you would think would be there for every game. Instead there are only around 8 templates. Nothing different there. You will be very hard pressed to find anyone who uses the motion detection. I've read stories about "Blazing Angels." The Logitech controller for the PS2 gave the user a wireless connection. So where is the innovation? Edit: I think they could have done much better. BTW why is this post in "Blu-ray Players" forum? Did it get lost or something? Last edited by GasCat; 05-01-2007 at 01:16 AM. |

Had to send an email, this is what I sent:
Dear Editor, FAO Chris Taylor; Have you ever seen or used a PS3 I wonder? The controller is widely regarded as the finest around and it HAS changed. In addition to the wireless ability, the shoulder buttons have a more progressive function to suit the change in gaming style and the whole thing is motion sensitive on six axis, hence the name 'SIXAXIS'. Also, if one doesn't want to use the controller for the other uses for the PS3 (CD replay, DVD replay, internet access, Blu-ray replay, online community etc etc etc ("gee-whiz features that turned out to be a drawback...") then there is a standard bluetooth controller available for a few dollars. Also, the PS3 has not 'lost' against the Wii as it is not a direct competitor. The pricing and age range target are completely different as are most of the other technical benefits - Blu-ray being the main. Blu-ray is the type of next generation movie replay format utilising HDTVs. This in itself is leagues ahead of its direct competition HD-DVD, which is out-gunned in terms of sales and ability. So, could you possibly re-iterate just HOW the PS3 went wrong, as in my eyes it seems like a true success story in its infancy. Maybe before you write your next article on consumer you may wish to do a little more research on the subject. Your respectfully, I'll probably not get a reply, but at least I've aired my views. ![]() |

This tool knows that once you plug in the Nunchuk, the EZ to use Wiimote/Nunchuk combo has just as many buttons as the Dual Shock/Sixaxis right?

The Wii is utter garbage. There isnt a decent GAME worth playing on the damn thing. Honestly, i really tried to give it a chance. The system has NOTHING worthwhile on it, especially since i played Zelda on the cube. Im still waiting for a reason to own the Wii.

I'm guessing the writer is uninformed on the subject he is writing about. There will always be people who think everything is complicated, hence the running of the how do I program my VCR joke for so many years.

i have both a wii and a ps3. i waited out for 3 days for the ps3 just to be clear this was my console of choice, i came across a wii and bought it to play different games. as far as wii vs. ps3. my choice is the ps3 all the way. it does everything like the guy said in the article, which is great. the wii is for when my parents come over and want to play games. pops loves playing games on the wii due to the controller. then when i showed him RR7 and turned on the motion control, he liked that too, especially the hd quality. for me the wii is for quick games of tennis, warioware and VC console games. i did buy SSX Blur for the wii and this is a blast to play but its hard to play for hours on end. this is the true fault of the wii, it is impossible to play for any length of time due to THE controllers. this is the flaw of only using motion controlled controllers. Zelda to me was impossible to play with the wii, i hated it. my dog is actually afraid of the controllers due to me swinging around. with the ps3 i can play RR7 with motion and then switch over to R:Fom for a while. at the moment i dont think i have played an actual wii game in over a month. as for the ps3 its on everyday, playing a movie, Folding, games, music, and functioning as a Apple tv sort of(Movie trailers in HD on the ps3 Rock). oh and i dont own a 360 cuz there crap.
