Dilemma: Better graphics or exclusive content? The GTAIV debate.

SO its been reported in two publications that the PS3 features slightly better graphics than the 360 version. However, it is well known that Rockstar was paid $60 million by MS to have exclusive episodic content.

I know that there are easily more PS3 fans around here, but does the EC make you lean towards purchasing the 360 version.

In the gaming world, "exclusive" typically tends to translate to a temporary phenomenon of maybe a few months at most before that content/game ends up somewhere else anyways.

True, but I doubt MS paid $60 million for something thats only temporary.

I only own a ps3, so my decision is simple.

I am one who takes his time in a sandbox game, so exclusive content isn't that appealing. I'd much rather have better graphix, anti-aliasing, etc. over some content I won't care about for a very long time. The ps3 is getting downloadable content, just the 360 gets more. So I could care less about extra dlc.

We have a PS3 and I use it for blu-ray but others use it for games. I could see it as an excellent gaming machine. However, I know some others who would select 360 over PS3 due to content. Also, I know that someone bought 360 because a particular game was not available on PS3. I think it is personal. Perhaps more people would select PS3 due to the PQ?

I own both systems, yet I chose to preorder GTA on the PS3, even before the review came out, mainly because I tend to favor my 360 when it comes to games, and my PS3 controllers need love too. If I feel I missed out on something after I finish it, Ill pick up the XBOX version.

Better visuals and faster load times is more important to me than a few extra missions, weapons, vehicles, or whatever DLC will be exclusive to the 360 for a limited time.

It's done all the time in gaming.

I could easily see MS paying that for say...a good 6 months' lead time on that content.

I'm sorry Sony didn't counter. Actually, I'm sorry Sony couldn't keep GTA exclusive to the PS3 but that's a different story entirely.

I don't have a ps3, but if I did, here are my thoughts:

the graphics difference doesn't seem that meaningful to me, maybe that will change when there are some comparison vids up. The load time does concern me for the 360, I wonder why they didn't include an option for 360 hd owners, maybe in a patch? Will have to read up more on the loads.

We don't really know what the extent of the dlc is at this point, so any opinion about it either way will be wishful thinking. That said, I would err on the 360 side based on the large monies loaned to R*.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a more definitive statement by the company detailing a rough length estimate of the DLC, but I guess that would end up being a de facto endorsement of which version to purchase.

Ultimately I prefer slightly more gameplaying experience to slightly better graphics. When I think back on my 20+ years of gaming, almost all of the standout titles I've played, I would rather they continue on a bit longer rather than having slightly improved graphics.

i refuse to buy a 360. i guess thats my answer to the question. exclusive content will not make me buy another console. i choose one and stick with it.

Same with me. I chose the ps3. So if the game has a bad port, I won't buy it. It seems like the ps3 actually has the edge graphically. So, it's a no-brainer.

if you take your time, wouldn't you appreciate more hours in said game? and since you could care less..do it! :teehee:

but seriously. the graphical difference really shouldn't matter. so theres a shade more pop in with the 360 version, big whoop. all the reviews give a "slight" edge to the ps3 version. to me that tells me to buy the version you have the most friends on so you can enjoy the multiplayer
