I watched the picture already, but I am watching it again tonight with some family members . I will keep an eye out for the "red issue". I must admit that I tend to focus on the movie and I tend to ignore other variables.

It's not going to be release in Canada until it's dubbed in French. Any non-English language movie in Canada should be in French.

I watched this yesterday. Not exactly what I was expecting, as I was expecting a little more horror/creepiness, but what was there was good. That's not saying I didn't like the movie, either, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'd definitely recommend it.

PQ, like other New Line titles, is top notch. I didn't notice any problems with it, no speckles, nothin. I don't know why this got 4.5/5 in the review here, I couldn't find any problems with it.

Audio is right there with the picture. It's dialogue heavy, but on the parts where it really kicks in, it's great. The part with the medium gets pretty creepy, and the various bumps and knocks throughout will have you looking over your shoulder.

All in all, a definite recommendation from me for The Orphanage.

Like instead of fading to black, it fades to red... Yeah, I don't know why I keep trying to describe it...
The red is clearly there, and I can't imagine it's not intended, to produce a "hellish" look.

The PQ is outstanding. Among the very best PQ I've seen.

The RED is part of the story...

Think about it....you'll figure it out.

Wether it's part of the story or not, it doesn't look quite right on my TV. The rest of the image looks natural and film like, but the redish parts don't. But again, I am going to assume it's due to the annoying DNR thing that New Line uses. I noticed there's a few people that think that New Line titles look flawless. I personally think they look fake and filtered. I much prefer the look the trailers have compared to what the film actually looks like. I can't remember which reviewer first pointed this out, but I know it's on the Hairspray disc where you can see in the trailer Pre-DNR, and then during the film post-DNR. You lose the film grain that uninformed people complain about, but you also start to lose fine detail.

I also saw the Edge Enhancement that was mentioned in the HDD review. In a lot of the outdoor shots you can see light halos arond the buidling.

Great movie! I watched this late last night with my girl. She screams easily and man... there were some great unexpected moments!

It's not really like Pan's Labyrinth at all (a film I LOVE), it's more like The Shining or Poltergeist. With creepy little kids! I had a feeling I would enjoy this movie as soon as the main menu starts and you see the children's shadows on the wall and hear their eerie giggles and whispers.

Yowzer!

I only glanced at the first chapter of the extras and it was 480i.

I cannot read the information on the underside of disc, so I cannot determine if it is BD50 or BD25.

Anyway, it was a great movie and I highly recommend it.

I just watched The Orphanage again and enjoyed it even more the second time around.

This movie was a fantastic, and I believe it may be one of the first new line blu rays that they didn't screw up the dts ma 7.1 all seven channels are present on my receiver unlike pans labryth which the ps3 says dts ma 7.1 but the receiver sees it as 5.1

Yeah it works as 7.1. I'm not convinced the problems with the other discs from them not being 7.1 using the PS3 are New Line's problem though - I believe it is the decoder in the PS3 that is the culprit.

I just watched this film.

Wow. One of the best films I've seen in a long time. Well executed, the acting was great, great cinematography. And the ending was phenomenal. I cried. I actually cried. The last film to do that was Grave of the Fireflies.

This should win an Emmy, or Oscar, or something.

There are also white specks all over the film...specifically at 49:07 and 49:08 just above the night stand on the left side of the screen. I really like this movie, but I have some questions...certain things I can't talk about here without changing the color of the text:

***************SPOILER WARNING**************************

[Show spoiler]1) Why doesn't anyone remember seeing Simon at the party? If it was actually him someone should have noticed him.
2)I know he was upset, but why would he slam the door on his mothers finger and then take the key...he didn't seem to be a freaking crazy kid.
3)One of the biggest questions is why did he still have the mask on in the basement...it had been a long time...wouldn't you think he would take it off when he realized he was trapped? They're not deal-breakers or anything...but whatever...and yes I do realize that quibbling over things like this when there are actually ghosts in the story seems strange, but they should still not try and take the easy route.

I didn't notice any white specks but the next time I watch it, I'll check the timecodes you listed.

Not sure on 1. On 2, I thought it was because the
[Show spoiler]ghosts were turning him against her. They told him about being adopted, that he was going to die, etc. so that he ended up being angry with her b/c he had been lied to. Still though, that doesn't quite seem right based on what happened in the rest of the movie and at the end.
. Good catch on 3. I hadn't thought of that but yeah, that doesn't seem to make any sense.
[Show spoiler]It definitely made the scene a lot more dramatic though so that's probably why they did it. But yeah, being trapped down there, the mask would have been the first thing to go
.

The lead actress certainly should, but IMDB says this was first released in the US on December 28, 2007, so perhaps her chance is past?
