I have the PRO-FHD1, and no, it doesn't do 1080p over component. It's not a placebo effect! Say what you want, but you're wrong. You could cover the part of my tv that tells me what input is being used and switch between inputs. I GUARANTEE you I could tell you which one was the Elite and which one is my old 360. The difference to me is very distinct. Let people talk about what they don't know...Keep in mind that NBA Street: Homecourt outputs NATIVELY in 1080p, so this is not just a HDMI vs. component comparison, but also a 1080p vs. 1080i/720p comparison.

Either way this is a 1080i vs 1080p thing in all reality and with an PROFHD1 there should be no difference as it can do 2:2 cadence properly and the 1080i signal will be transformed into a 1080p stream before being displayed. So you may have had the older X360 set in 720p mode, but if it was in 1080i the difference on your screen should be negligible at best. On lesser screens, yes the difference would be much more pronounced as it would be 540p when set in 1080i mode, but Pio Elites are the best TVs in the world for a reason. |

Ok, maybe my set does 1080p over component (thanks for that. I didn't know that). I assumed it didn't because when I set my old 360 to output 1080p via component, it was scrambled. All I know was that I needed HDMI to get 1080p with my 360, and now that it does do 1080p, the difference is VERY noticable.

Kiddtigger (or to anyone that can answer this for me), I have the white (20gb) Xbox 360 and my Sony Bravia LCD 52" XBR2 reads out 1080p via component when i check the output from the 360. Can my Sony be wrong? I read somewhere that through a fall 2006 patch update, the white 360 is now able to output 1080p via component (for games only). They added that if you wanted to watch movies in 1080p, then you would have to use the VGA cable. But for 1080p games, the component was enough. So far I thought that was true because every game I have reads 1080p on my Sony. Since most of my 360 games are older games, their boxes in the backcover reads 720p/1080i HD output. PS I'm glad you enjoy your black 360. I am surprised that you do see a major difference but... it's all about enjoying. |

If your sony tells you that the incoming signal is 1080p then it probably is. The 360 is probably upconverting to 1080p, but to be honest, I'm not really too sure. I thought that the 360 could do 1080p over component, but that it depended on whether or not your tv accepted the signal over component.

The only thing I would be interested in about the "Elite"
![]() Seriously though, I wonder if the Elite is impervious to the red lights of death? |

Of course you're going to notice a difference in sharpness around the edges of players if you're using a different resolution on the same tv. You say you're not doing a component vs HDMI comparison but surely that's the whole point when comparing the old 360 and the 'elite'?

So basically, the elite is better cause it allows you to use hdmi. Otherwise, the old 360 is exactly the same. Personally, I wouldn't drop $480 just for that, but, eh, its your money.

Both my DLP & MY LCD handle 1080p over component. On not one single device, be it ps3 or HDDVD have I been able to detect an appreciable difference between HDMI & Y-PB-PR. Now if you are seeing a difference, I would attribute it to your settings, which BTW how is your set calibrated for each input? I would take it a step further and tell you, I would bet you couldn't tell a movie displayed in 1080p to one being output in 1080i upscaled by the tv to 1080p. but you are a self proclaimed [rabbit ears]"Videophile"[/rabbitears] so who knows? =) Last edited by BTBuck1; 05-01-2007 at 05:28 PM. |
