I've seen a total of 30 films from the Top 50.

I just finished revisiting Citizen Kane with undivided attention, and am now watching it again with the Roger Ebert commentary track while I post on the laptop. The last time I saw this movie was by way of a VHS tape in the late 1990s, so it was really something else to see it in high definition in a good ratio. It really is one of the most visually spectacular films out there, and I cannot get enough of the use of shadows and framing. In visual terms, this movie is sort of like an amusement park with endless attractions. I would not hold it up as the all-time best movie ever made with respect to my personal tastes, but it is a genuinely fun movie with some of the most creative shots out there. This is an awesome Blu-ray package.

I did not realize beforehand that Paul Stewart played Kane's butler, Raymond, in the movie, and I got a kick out of seeing him because I just watched him in the Olive film noir title, Appointment with Danger, yesterday. Stewart also played in the Criterion title, Kiss Me Deadly. He starred in quite a few film noir titles, because he was one intensely evil-looking dude. One of the other films in his canon, Champion, is in my Blu-ray stack right now waiting to be watched.
It's also great, of course, to see Joseph Cotton (Shadow of a Doubt, Niagara).

Oh i am considering the MOC version of The Passion of Joan of Arc. It looks great.

I'm about to do that now. It won DVD Beaver's Disc of the Year last year, which is pretty good props.

Alan Ladd is the lead in Appointment with Danger, interestingly enough. We need The Blue Dahlia on Blu-ray.
I love RKO! Definitely would grab any Alan Ladd noir on Blu. Trouble is, they just got around to releasing The Blue Dahlia and The Glass Key on DVD!

I watched it on Netflix last night. Quite frankly, I don't quite understand the love it gets. On the other hand, I also don't understand the hate it gets.

I liked it well enough, but I didn't think it was extraordinarily good nor extraordinarily bad. My biggest problem was that Frances was such a complete ditz, even if a fairly likeable ditz. But it wasn't until near the end, when she seemed to finally get her shït together that I decided that I liked the film. The biggest plus for me was the relationship between Frances and Sophie.

I suspect this is a film I'll like more with re-watching, so I may end up getting the Criterion BD someday, but in the meantime, it's fairly low on the list.

RKO was always my favorite of the Big Five studios of the Golden Age.

It was always RKO and Warner Bros. for me. Warner's for their Gangsters and RKO for their Noir and Lewton films.

Congratulations and welcome to the addiction that I wish I could quit. I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the titles you purchased when you have the time to watch them.

I finally had enough time to catch up with some Criterion titles on my DVR. I watched L'Eclisse(Antonioni) and Touki Bouki (one of the films that will be released in the Martin Scorsese World Cinema Project set). I also watched two other non-Criterion films, Days of Being Wild(Wong Kar-Wai) and Repentance(Abuladze) that are worthy of the Criterion treatment.

I enjoyed L'Eclisse much more than L'avventura, and hope that I will be able to watch La Notte soon. I have seen 3 films by Antonioni now, but don't feel the desire to rewatch any of them. Although, I would recommend them to other people intereseted in European cinema.

Touki Bouki was very surreal and unusual in a good way. I'm still breaking down the meaning of the film in my mind. I can understand why/how the film influenced Claire Denis (Beau Travail).

One of the best examples I've seen of distinguishing DVDs and Blu-rays in a combo pack.

I watched The Moment of Truth for the first time yesterday.
A minor Criterion release that I've heard very little about (as far as I know, no discussion of it on this forum), I blind bought it (which is a regular for me with Criterions) a couple of months ago. It`s a great film, very enthralling, classic story of a `poor young man trying to make his way by any means`. Amazing bullfighting scenes. The transfer on this is also fantastic, I was really impressed. Again, I'm surprised that this doesn't warrant more attention, even if just for the fantastic transfer. A great disc from Criterion, an under-rated gem that Criterion fans will appreciate.

Welcome aboard!

Paris, Texas is one of my Top Ten Criterion titles. I just revisited that movie the other night, and was marveling at the cinematography.

Seven Samurai needs no further recommendation. Despite the film's length, there's not a single wasted second. This was my introduction to the Criterion collection years ago, by way of the old scrappy DVD edition. Comparing that initial DVD transfer to this new Blu-ray is like comparing night and day.

The Three Colors Trilogy is stunning, and these films are visual treats in so many ways. Three Colors: Red is my favorite of the bunch, but they are all five-star flicks.

Quick heads up on Amazon lightning deals, Diabolique starts at 11:25am EST, and Three Outlaw Samurai at 7:25pm EST. Thinking about jumping on Three Outlaw Samurai as I'm enjoying my recent Samurai film purchases.

Anyway, just fyi for anyone who may not have seen it yet.

If the upcoming BN BOGO is true what's stopping someone from buying two boxed sets - eg (2) World Cinema sets?

The "lowest" priced item would still be the boxed set. Only thing stopping it is a limit.

If allowed I may just go in half with a buddy and get a World Cinema box for half price.
