Ok so I ordered the first 3 Indiana Jones BD's that we're released on the 2nd of December this year which were stated to have iTunes digital copies with them, they have arrived today and guess what no digital copies included at all, I've started to get really annoyed at this I thought avengers was a blip from the Marvel/Disney releases but since Iron Man 3 and now Thor 2 preorders are up its clear they have ditched Digital Copies all together, which annoys me for 2 reasons ;
1: We pay for more blurays than Americans do simply because we are UK and apparently we love paying more for everything yet receiving less 2.: The fact that I love to collect solid copies of blurays but I travel a lot and enjoy having my films on my ipad either through iTunes or flixster, and setting up a bluray entertainment system in a train or on the bus isn't practical ... Rant Over |

Not always true. Several times I have found UK boxsets much cheaper than the US versions - Alien, Superman, Universal Classic Monsters, Back to The Future etc. The UK also receives some releases well before the US.

I have a couple hundred blurays I used to do it with my DVDs but with blurays it took too long and I have 6TB worth of films on external HDs I would just prefer to have a copy in the cloud that I can download to my device before a journey and then enjoy my film

I agree. UK releases are often inferior and the messaging about what's actually included pre-release is often incomplete or downright wrong. How hard can it really be for a studio to pass on the information about what's on their disc? It shouldn't be rocket science.
Of course, the traditional response of not buying a product you are unhappy with doesn't really work - the studios just see this as lack of interest in physical media and will use flat sales to push their digital downloads/streaming even more. I'm afraid all you can do is [1] buy the US version (if possible) and [2] write or email the studio and tell them why you decided to buy another release of their product. |

Anyway with Paramount they have pretty much given up on digital copies as missed from Flight, Jack Reacher etc in the UK. Only Paramount title in the UK I have seen this year with a digital copy (was an itunes code), was Star Trek Into Darkness. Other studios here have all moved to Ultraviolet via Flixster or Sony website, so that applies to Sony, Universal, Warner and BBC. I have found that in the UK Disney are absolutely crap with the ditching of the dual play DVDs in BDs and no digital copies. In the US they give dual play DVDs for "free" in the standard BD but do charge extra or only put in the 3D version the digital copies. |

Either way I enjoy collecting blurays but they cannot expect me to pay for a solid copy and then a digital version just for travel it's ridiculous, yet if you complain they simply say, we'll it is also available for digital purchase at a separate cost ... But it just annoys me that the likes of Disney just dropped the digital copy all together they have tried/ nor will try Disney plus in the UK which I've heard good reviews from in the US and AUS..... ARGHHHHHHH haha

If they get rid of the Digital Copies then it should also be cheaper then, you could rip the film you want and then upload it to a dropbox, movies are less then 1gb and you can make them 720p version or just download a rip and then upload it to a dropbox or something and then keep it with you i store mine on my ipad.

If you discount the extra features on a disc and all the other language tracks, then it should come to a lot less than 50GB
What I find annoying is when they release a title, then re-release it a few months later and add a UV code. This doesn't necessarily apply to new titles. I'm not going to rebuy a title just to get a UV code. There is an option in the US where if you already own the title, then you can buy a discounted UV copy if one is available. We don't have that in the UK |

Digital copies are redundant for me. From memory it takes about an hour to rip a blu-ray on my computer (and to convert the file into the appropriate format), it's hardly an inconvenience, when you can simply start it, then go do something else and come back to it

I just realised the way I wrote it made it sound like an hour in total, I meant about an hour for each. It's only an i7 laptop, nothing particularly special. I'm not the one who usually deals with it all, I'm not too fond of computers and avoid using them where I can. My fiancée on the other hand rips and downloads quite a bit of content almost daily, I asked her about it before posting, and that's what she told me.
