My place beyond the pines showed up yesterday after been shipped last Friday.
Looked like it was re-wrapped after customer return but its in mint condition thankfully.
Now waiting for Conjuring...lets hope its mint!
No way will anyone get it for release day as they have slow shipping so needed to be shipped yesterday for chance of release day delivery.

+1. Which is a double edged sword BTW. I paid $70 for a copy of Captain America. I thought it was mint for 3 months until I opened it. Under the j-card it had damage. The truth is opened/sealed the value of it will be based on the buyer. Sme buyers prefer open to know if its mint, other buyers prefer sealed. Which one are YOU because it's sitting on your shelf until you decide to sell it.

Yep I have had a few steels which looked totally mint - until I opened them and discovered scratches etc under the j-card or just not noticeable until the seal was off.

Keeping them sealed just makes no sense to me anyway as I actually watch the films (I know this is unusual )

If I were going to display it, I'd open it, as I think having it sit there in the shrinkwrap would look a little ... sheltered. Similarly, if I were a buyer, and were buying it to watch (I know, weird, huh?), I'd prefer to know for sure that the disc at least was fully functional. I can understand people wanting a copy that's untouched by other hands, but then if the disc is faulty it's probably not going to be addressable, and what's the point of it then?

Just one opinion, and barely worth two cents, but there it is.

I plan to keep it in mint condition and take all precautions I can. Does opening the steelbook affect the value a lot? In other words is there a lot difference in value between like new opened in mint condition and sealed new?

And thanks for the advice on the CoD tin. I will contact customer service.
Any time you open something, the value will be cut considerably...and that definitely applies to steelbooks.
I used to keep mine all sealed, thinking I would sell them, but then I realized I wasn't going to sell them, so I had a blast opening about 70 steelbooks in one shot.
Ultimately it's up to you. If you want to sell/trade them later on, keep them sealed. If you plan on holding on to them, by all means, let those steelbooks breathe and open them up!

I am also a sealed video game collector, but I am NOT going that route with my steelbooks and the main reason is they are not near as nice looking with the packaging on. I am more than happy saving a few bucks on a used copy and plus I can see any damage before buying it, nothing worse than over paying for a rare steelbook and opening it up to find damage on it...

All that being said, I have a few I have kept sealed, mainly things like LOTR, I have the extended set so I didn't feel the need to open all the steels....yet.

Yeah there is that too - sealed steelbooks just dont look nice at all. And you get questions from other people who think youre weird etc

I'm used to people who think I'm weird so no worries there. However, based on what you guys have said and what I think myself I think I am going to open the ones I am displaying. That Transformers 2 steel is beautiful and you can't even see the awesome artwork on the back with the packaging on. Now here's to hoping that there are no scratches or dents on the back.

If a buy a film, Steelbook or not, I'm going to open it at some point. How can I tell if something works without trying it first?

How do you guys like that second price drop on Zatoichi/13 Assassins and Despicable Me 2 being 17.49 now? I will not be pre-ordering anything else from Zavvi except for their Disney/Pixar collections. Going to wait for price-drops from now on...
