Lame.
Wonder why no showings earlier than midnight for this one. I thought they usually do that on thursday nights now.
Yeah, I don't know why the marathon starts at 8 too. That's still late for 2 nearly 3 hour movies.

[Show spoiler]The battle of laketwon and smaugs death should have been the climax of this film, but it couldnt be fit in so now we get this tedious cliffhanger and a climax for an opening in film 3.

Good thing the rest of this film is apparently strong.
We've already seen footage from the 3rd film in a previous Desolation trailer, including
[Show spoiler]the attack on Laketown, Sauron's forces mobilising, and Bard's black arrow shooting towards Smaug
so a minor preview shouldn't be outside the realms of possibility. Good to see the reviews are so strong though. Not able to catch the film until wednesday the 18th.

That wasn't Bards black arrow. It was a black arrow shot at smaug when he attacked Dale. Its in the EE of AUJ
The trailers for DOS have had footage from AUJ for some reason.

Don't think it's awesome. Not pro or con Colbert, just not my thing. I tend to avoid political chat shows and comedy, just feels like hate porn to me.

it's dependent if the theater has done the upgrade. Generally most IMAX-3D is not HFR.

OK THANKS!

So whats the general choice of people here? HFR or IMAX 3D? Missed HFR last year, but only seen it in IMAX 3D.

Last year I saw pt. 1 in HFR because the IMAX screen at my theater isn't a "true" IMAX and because the HFR was more important to me than a slightly larger screen and better sound system

initial impression of HFR is very personalized - some don't mind the sped up look, others find it jarring. I personally liked it.

I have the choice here in the DC area to actually seeing this in HFR IMAX as Tyson's system is upgraded as such and played the first Hobbit as such, but I'm not a fan of IMAX 5.0 sound, give me 7.1 or Dolby Atmos sound any day.

I think it's fantastic! I'll definitely be on the lookout for him. The amount of information he knows about Tolkien and the Middle-Earth universe is astounding. So cool to see such a Tolkien-nerd be a part of this film adaptation!

It's really not that hard to equip a theater for HFR, it's basically a higher grade Real 3D.

Here's a little tip for anyone wanting to see the double feature this Thursday..I went on Fandango and bought a $50 gift card through my Discover Card (10% cashback), and you get a free movie ticket for buying that gift card. I figured I'd just go ahead and try to see if it would apply to my double feature ticket and it actually did! Free $20 movie ticket! . And I'll use that $50 gift card in no time flat so win-win for me.

The first Hobbit bored me to tears. They're lucky this one has a hot elf chick to entice me into seeing it.
