I could go for that. I wasn't crazy about MI4 but the problem was the script, not the directing.

MI4 is best of 4 movies.
Also MI4 feels modern, funny but best of all, action scenes and places are awesome. Moscow Kremlin and Dubai Burj Khalifa, what else would you want? Most movies(99%) has boring locations like some city streets or some buildings...
I hope Brad directs Star Trek.

When it comes to these new Star Trek movies, there's nowhere to go but up. I'd be very surprised if they could make something worse in this day and age than what JJ has produced. They might as well just hire Michael Bay because that's who JJ is basically emulating.

Star Trek - imdb 8/10 ; Rotten tomatoes - 95%(critics); 91%(audience); Yahoo users 4.5/5

Star Trek Into Darkness - imdb 7.9/10 ; Rotten Tomatoes - 87%(critics); 91%(audience); Yahoo users 4/5

Clearly you alone because those are one of the highest action movies in 2009 and 2013...

Yes, clearly I am the only person on Earth who didn't like those 2 movies.

And so what if I have a dissenting opinion? It's just as valid as the opinions held by the masses.

The Michael Bay comparison is a lazy one.

Star Trek is getting more action than ever... gee who can I compare these movies to? Oh I know, Michael Bay that guy that only does action!

Michael Bay is a practitioner of excess and creates nothing but paper thin characters. Yes, these new movies have A LOT of action but comparing them to Michael Bay films makes you look like nothing more than a child who didn't get what they wanted or what they ideally think Star Trek is or supposed to be.

The action is fine as long as it's grounded by the characters. Most people agree that these movies are character driven.

Look, if you can't handle someone having a different opinion than your own, then don't even bother typing out an insulting response.

You used a personal attack because I compared 2 movies with tons of empty action and paper-thin characters to the filmography of a director who specializes in movies with tons of empty action and paper-thin characters. Now who's being a spoiled child?

Minor quibbles aside about female characters, Star Trek Into Darkness was exciting as hell. It made me pumped for future Science Fiction movies.

I would like a bit of balance though between the action and philosophical stuff. Star Trek can and should just as smart and thought provoking as Star Wars.

I didn't find his response to be a personal attack. He compared you to a child, pretty mild by most people's standards. Maybe you are just a bit too sensitive?

I remember seeing an interview with Brad Bird once and he said he was always a fan of Star Trek... I think he'd do an amazing job, and would be the right guy to drive the franchise back on path and to the future. My other choices would be sketchy at best, but I'd love Alex Proyas or Darren Aronofsky to try Star Trek...

Yep, big Kakuranger fan! I can't wait for the final episodes to be subtitled because I'm really loving this series. And I'm not even what you'd call a big Super Sentai fan in general, although I also love Zyuranger.

I think they should put Trek on hold for awhile. There is no audience out there for it anymore.

Would much rather see a Star Trek 3, it wouldnt bother me if the new Star Wars trilogy got canned.

Everytime Trek comes back as a new movie or show, the old angry Trek audience reappears.

Yes, seriously. The last movie underperformed in the States, and a lot of older Trek fans were denouncing the movie before they had even seen a scene.

Do you feel the same way about a TV series?

That might work better because then it can be everything. Action, philosophy, social satire, world exploring, and tons of character interaction. Where as a movie has to compete with other big blockbusters in a two or so hour time frame.
