I picked this up last Friday night. Very heavy to take up stairs, but assembly is straight forward. October 2013 Build date.
First thing I noticed is it's not nearly as bright as my 42" plasma. With that thing even at night with maximum energy savings on it would still hurt my eyes. Blu-rays out of the box look amazing and are proper amount of brightness to my eyes. The only thing that looks dull is cable tv. I wonder if that is due to my cable signal and internet signal being split out of the wall. I was also thinking about getting an OPPO as a video pass through source, maybe that would help. PS3 games look vibrant. So it's just mainly cable, but I watch that most. Fans. I haven't heard these things at all. If I was told this is a whisper quiet tv, i'd believe them. Every time I've touched it, it's been cold or room temp. No image retention so far. I fell asleep last night for about 90 minutes with the ps3 home screen up. The ps3 home screen does dim quite a bit with no activity, no retention that I could see. I have been running the slides while at work and will just use d-nice slides in a couple weeks. Are they also for a dark room setting like c-nets? If the f8500 was close in same price i'd probably exchange it. Maybe i'll get used to it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

hey fellas, what are the slides for? is it for some anti-burn in feature or something or something to do with plasmas & their screens?
is this required (meaning a warranty rejection) or is it just highly recommended? i ask because i don't own a plasma and have never heard of this before. perhaps it's just a panny thing or do all plasma makers (which are what 2 or 3 makers) do this too? ![]() |

![]() The slides are for evenly aging (breaking in) the panel for the first 100 hours, I have done it with all three of my sets. I then use D-Nice's calibration settings and have been very very happy with the results. One day I may call Chad-B who lives up the road and have him come calibrate all of my displays. You don't have to run the slides but it also allows you to make sure you have no pixel issues right out of the box as well. Bill |

Congrats! I've had mine since July and I am still loving it!
I tried D-Nice's recommended settings but for me, the image was a tad too dark and colors were more muted. I actually prefer CNET's settings as the image seems brighter and has more "pop." Just curious, what supposed to be the advantage of an October build? Last edited by Steelmaker; 12-12-2013 at 04:59 PM. |

Looks good, Cold Cobra.
Do you find the 60" big enough for you? It looks like your previous TV might have been a 46". Were you considering the 65VT60 at all? I'm still trying to decide between 60" and 65" myself. Last edited by windom; 12-13-2013 at 01:07 AM. |

i'd say get the 65 if you have any doubts. 60 really isn't that big, even after coming from a 42. here's what my 42 looked like on the same stand. ![]() Update. Now that it's been broken in a little bit at 100 hours. Colors seem a little deeper and vibrant. Out of the box i still think it's on the dark side, a bump of 15 contrast and 15 brightness gets it close. This is just on standard with cats off that i've done it with. Home Theater during and other modes during a blu-ray is fine. Is it really worth upgrading to a oppo103 with a vt60? when watching pacific rim on it, its hard to imagine it looking better, but i guess thats possible/probable. |

Sa-Weet!
Good stuff man. Welcome to the family. THX right out the box for me is awesome. I love Plasmas for their natural and accurate colors. I never get the " not bright enough" complaint unless you came from an overly bright LCD-LED. But what do I know. Enjoy it brother, aint much in this price range at the quality for sometime. Maybe.... but its gonna set you up proper for some years to come. I know Im loving mine. |

I really wanted to go with the 65" but couldn't justify the cost increase per inch.
The 65" ships now for @ $2275 while the 60" shipped for $1830. That's a $445 premium for only 4.6" extra, or $96.74/inch for the premium. In terms of viewing distance using 0.535 that's a difference of only 8.6 inches. I'm not trying to feel better about my purchase, I still wish I could have gone with the 65", but those numbers just aren't worth the extra money at the moment for me. I sit 10ft away so 65" would have been my ideal screen size, but I can move the couch 8.6" closer! hahaha. |

I went ahead and changed my order from the 60" to the 65" on Amazon. I didn't want to live with the regret of not having gone bigger when I had the chance. The price difference will end up being only $392 for me. I sit about 11-12 feet away from the TV though my kids tend to sit closer at times. Guess they will have to get used to it.
