Like I said, I also experienced the sync issue on that song. I changed the sync on my receiver by 2 and it synced up fine. Are you running your player through a receiver, or straight to the tv? People that have not noticed the issue may not be running the disc through a receiver, or vice-versa.

My Sony player is running through a receiver. Then to my TV. But no issue.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. When I got home I hooked up another player I have, it plays fine on that one. Not sure why it did not sync up on the other player but it just wouldn't.

It will be interesting to see how the Criterion will compare to the upcoming Eureka release, although we know that Criterion will beat it in terms of bonus material. And I gotta say that I prefer the original poster artwork of the Eureka release.

And kind of off topic, but has anyone else seen the new Olive Films announcements?

Altman's Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean is getting a release in 2014. I haven't seen this but it sounds interesting. One Altman film I would really like to see (for the first time) and have it get a blu ray release is Quintet. Reading the synopsis, it sounds very interesting.

FIVE AND DIME is great, day one for me.

Most people find QUINTET to be glacially paced. Perhaps that's appropriate, given the subject matter. I love Paul Newman, but I don't think that he was a great fit with Altman (including BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS).

I've ordered Quintet on DVD since I figure that it will never be released on blu ray. Maybe Twilight Time eventually since they also release Fox titles, hey they released Mindwarp. It sounds really interesting - I love dystopian post apocalyptic movies and would love to see a genius like Altman's take on the subject.

And funny how Paul Newman is recognized as one of the all time greats but the movies he's made with two all time great directors - Hitchcock and Altman are recognized as being among the worst movies those directors have made.

Quintet is an interesting little movie. I like films that are different and Quintet definitely is different. It's part dystopian sci-fi and part murder mystery. It's not a film that I would be all that interested in seeing again though. I also find it's one of those rare Newman films where his performance doesn't "stand out". I kind of forgot he was in it actually.

I too noticed that the audio was off for one or two of the songs, definitely for one of "Barbara Jean's" songs. I have a Sony player hooked up to the tv.

Yeah, I just saw it. Different is an understatement. If it was directed by some mere mortal, it would be easy to reject. But because it's Altman, it's much harder to do so and it really makes me wonder what he is trying to say with it. Looking at the synopsis I thought that it would be some anti-nuclear weapon commentary, but I don't think it's that simple. I don't remember seeing a film where death is treated as nothing but a mere formality to an extent as it is in this film. I don't think we'll be seeing this on blu ray any time soon, if ever.

And that Nashville package looks really sweet. Even though I dislike the fact that Criterion have gone BD-DVD combo, I like that at the very least they've taken the opportunity to use the extra discs to have separate artwork on.

If the amount of extras included prevent Criterion from giving the main feature a video bit rate of 30 mbps, then they should spread the release over two discs. In this case, that would've been a little more problematic since it was a dual format/DVD release as well, but they shouldn't have been doing those in the first place and it seems that they've luckily abandoned the dual format again now.

Or they shouldn't use 20 mbps for their 1080i extras and end up using a lot of the disc. I am all for the extras looking good, but not if it affects the main presentation even slightly. Which it obviously did in this case.

I sent an e-mail to Mulvaney to address the issue. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed or from some reason it is a isolated case.
I've been watching, and when I got to the Cowboy Song, I started to see it was off. A shame, really. Criterion should fix that.

One year is not out by that much. Why the outraged response ?
