Default 300 in July

Just received tentative word, that 300 will debut in July on Blu-ray and HDDVD. The manroom site also has this news. Warner hasn't commented yet, but July does seem likely. Great movie, can't wait to see it in HD

That's a must buy, if it has LPCM.

Gary

P.S. Let us know when you put it up for pre-order.

If Warner Bros. screws the pooch on this one or Batman Begins (with regard to TrueHD or LPCM), I can see BD fans everywhere being REALLY UPSET. I will be one of those people.

I am cautiously optimistic about this...I want the movie but Warner just sucks with respect to how they treat their Blu-ray releases.

People forget that it's not just the lossy audio with Warner. Since they copy their HD DVD encode over to BR, the video is almost certainly sub par to what could be done. I've just about decided to completely hold off on any Warner titles regardless of their audio formats untill they start doing transfers optimized for BR's capacity and bitrate. I realize this will likely only happen after they drop HD DVD but I can wait. For me, I just think it's a waste to spend money on high end equipment and then settle for above average source material.

I'm very disappointed that they have 300, Matrix, and The Road Warrior. These are some great movies and it's a shame they're being put out by a studio that doesn't appreciate the format.

Just saw this at The IMAX theater and this film will look fantastic on BD.

Will Warner max out the HD-DVD and just transfer that to BD?

Probably, but even with that handicap BD will look great, not perfect but great.

Warners wins either way because people like me will buy 300. It's such a masterful film that I want to coddle it, like the infant of high-definition that it is; and watch my BD until Warner decides to double-dip and release a maxed out BD in the near future and christen it "The Special Edition".

Wow, it's not often the influences of Dennis Miller and Monty Python appear in my posts.

P.S. The above will happen and I will be enjoying 300 all over again.

Did you hear any word if it's TotalHD or not?

So, is this any good? I've always had a soft spot for these type of films (thank MST3K and Hercules Unchained for that).

Ahhh...I feel young again Not often a thread gets bumped after more than a decade. But yes, the movie is good. I like it a lot. Great fight scenes. It's based on the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC where 7000 Greeks held off 100,000 invading Persians. 300 Spartans remained to face the Persian army. It has always been used as an example of how a patriotic, well-trained military can fight against overwhelming odds. One of Gerard Butler's best roles in my opinion. Tonight we dine in hell!

Just watch it, don't go looking into it too much.
If you're going in completely blind you will probably love it the first time. The movie does lose a lot in repeated viewings though. First time I saw it it was just an amazing action movie, but now it's just comical. Or if you are looking for something to rip on like MST3K, you could probably make that happen on a first viewing too. Go in looking for a cool movie, it's there. Go in looking to make fun of, it can easily be done.
