The Queen is amazing film, and the Blu-ray disc is near reference.

David really hit the nail:

Quote:
Word for the day (yes, I’ve been watching a lot of Stephen Colbert lately) is texture. The high-definition image is breathtaking in its ability to resolve the very finest surface details on fabrics, foliage, skin, and furnishings. The interior shots take on a life of their own while the viewer is inundated with patterns, colors and textures that feel as if you’re drifting among the rooms and corridors on the screen. The sensation is visceral: the gold leaf on an end-table glows with a soft luster, porcelain shines with an almost wet-glisten, what would appear to be “wallpaper” in standard-definition reflects a subtle sheen in high-definition that reveals it to be silk. The opening shot alone with the camera slowly rising over the Queen as she models in her royal finery bursts with textures of velvet, satin, and embroidered lace. Facial expressions take on an affecting realism when viewed with such clarity in both near and far-ground shots.
Deja Vu and The Queen represent VC-1 finally being done right.
