my god, someone who hates those films more than I do
![]() but we are obviously the minority and don't count - how can JJ do anything wrong! Can't wait to hear the Star Wars fans screaming when Episode 7 comes out and he gives it the same treatment. |

No, the Oscars don't giggle over Lindsay Lohan jokes.
![]() The Razzies isn't some Critics' Circle, it started out in the 80's as a fan mailing-list/later website to giggle over Xanadu and Can't Stop the Music embarrassing themselves in the same summer of '80, and pretty much stayed that way ever since, through an entire 80's summer of Sylvester Stallone films. (Actually, it started around 1978 during the whole Medved Turkeys craze, but Xanadu/Can't was the turning point for them.) You could call it the celeb-gossip-bashing "E! Soup" awards, for more accurate tone, and any more lifestyle-appropriate jokes about E! Soup--and the sort of folks who joke about Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, and Xanadu the most--would probably get me kicked off again...If ya know what I mean. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-15-2014 at 07:40 PM. |

The same treatment he gave Star Trek? You mean make 2 films that are far far better than pretty much all of the previous ones? Wow, if he can pull that off with Star Wars I will be extremely happy!

No one would object to a great person winning consecutive awards if they deserved them, so why get upset that incompetents are subject to vitriol every year? You may disagree with the particular choices (I think they are solid for the most part), but certainly the value of the Razzies is clear. |

People getting hung up on "oh these awards are Hollywood being so self-masterbatory". This isn't set up by anyone important or famous, it's just a quirky little self parody ceremony. The problem is that's it's just predictable and boring, occasionally you get the fun moments with people like Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock doing funny routines, but where's the biting satire in going for the obvious, and not only that, the mundane. It's just going to be one of them things that'll come and go and no one will remember come a month later. |

Why no GI Joe: Retaliation? That film was horrible.
As for not liking the razzies, come on--it's meant to be humorous and not taken seriously. Like the MTV Lifetime Achievement award WAS, until Clint Howard was so honored by the award it made them all feel bad because they meant to make fun of him but he genuinely appreciated it. In fact, they felt SO bad, that they discontinued it...but the razzies accomplishes the same thing without being subtle, and IMHO is important because it's a light hearted way of telling the recipients: "Do better." |

yeah, not exactly. If you don't mind massive plot holes, stories that make no sense, props that were obviously designed with toy sales in mind and yes - getting screwed over with special features, then yeah JJ did something special. Real special. But that is a different thread.

![]() I'm not particularly convinced by these posts, that's all. The Razzies could be a worthwhile counterpoint to the self-congratulatory awards season, but they are predictable and simply aren't very relevant. The only time they make headlines is when a winner/loser actually picks up an award, rather than for their predictable choices. They really only kick the ones who are already down. |
