Default Center Channel Speaker Above tv?

well people i just wanted to know if my center channel speaker can be placed above my tv?
or does it have to be below the tv?
well with my tv stand and tv the height of it all come to be 4 ft. 5 in. tall.
so basickly my klipsch rc-62 center channel speaker would be 5 ft. high.
can i do that or do i have to place it lower? does it even matter?

I used to have a 'table' on top of my old 65" Toshiba 1080 RPTV. This is where I put my center channel.

Now that I have a Sony DLP that doesn't have a base, it sits on a stand, where underneath, I have a Klipsch RC-52. I must prefer the sound coming from under the TV. (There's screws/feet that go underneath the speaker and allow me to angle it up too).

I'm slowly moving everything to RFs. I got the center channel a while back. I'll be upgrading my receiver next, then probably fronts, sub, rears.

I've been busy with applying to grad schools and moving so I didn't want to pick up new equipment that I didn't have room for and have them banging around as I went across the country.

It doesn't really matters where your center speaker is based. My RC25 center
speaker's placement is exactly like yours on top of TV and dialoque is spot on.

Unless folks who used projection then the center speakers will
definitely be placed below the screens still dialoque is spot on.

I believe above is recommended so the center can be near the same level as the tweeters of your front speakers. I'm afraid it's been many years since I moved mine above; I don't remember where I read it from, but it was probably from the Dolby or THX websites.

Mine is sitting on top of the Tv on a small shelf designed to hold the Center speaker. My lefts and right (also RC62) are at almost the exact same height on book shelves holding my DVD's over to each side. With the Room set up mic used with my receiver sound is Perfect (but thats just my opinion.. )

depends...... that's the best answer..... how far off the ground is "below" and how high above the ground is "above"

Whatever gets you closer to all three speakers being the same height is best

As others have said, it should be on the same plane as your fronts. If you have to go on top, it will help greatly if you can tilt the center down toward your seating area. Some centers have 'legs' you can extend to do this, or you can rig something to tilt it down. Just make sure it doesn't slide off the front!

Also, if your receiver has an auto calibration feature, it should be able to compensate for the center being lower. I don't know, but I think that's what auto cal is supposed to do.

The RC-62 has a screw in piece that can go in several points on the speaker. I finally got unlazy (if that's a word) and put mine in the other day. I tried to point is at the main viewing position.

Then, I ran the autocalibration. I figure that will adjust the input volumes so they match as best possible. It won't be perfect, but it's still pretty close.

It doesn't matter.

My Rock Solid center-channel speaker is placed on the bottom shelf of my stand, beneath my 50" Pioneer/Elite PRO-110FD KURO Plasma TV.

It doen't matter. When I had my regular tube tv I had it sitting on top of the tv. Now that i have a flat screen with a big center channel i have it sitting below. As long as you have the speaker tilted at face level you're fine.

the center speaker should be as mentioned as close to your current fronts as possible to get the best soundstage from all three of em. panning is a great example of how it helps out.

the last thing you'd like to notice is to hear a jet or someone talking from the left front jump below your speakers, then move up towards your right front speaker.

all in all, as long as its not ON THE FLOOR you should be fine. angle it towards the sweet spot to get the best performace as well. or better yet use mopads.

start: hijack.exe

@ nezff,

ever consider toe-ing in your fronts as well as move it a tad farther from the wall?

also consider mopads for your center speaker to decouple em, and to get it to strike the sweet spot directly.

just a suggestion.

end: hijack.exe

Just to clarify:
the height of the tweeters on the L and R fronts need to match up with the center speaker.
