I am really appalled to find out that the UK release received a perfect 5/5 on its review on this very website.
![]() Dull and electronically sharpened as it is, Twilight Time's release is a thousand times preferable to that zoomed-in, garish, contrast-boosted to the nth degree (no wonder their jackets look red. Duh!), dnr'ed waxy eye-sore that the UK release is. If I wanted my movies on BD to look like that, I could watch them on a TV on "store demo mode" at any Best Buy. I would give the UK release a generous 4/10, while Twilight's get a 6/10. And studios get a 0/10 for giving us those options to choose from. |

Twilight Time's is weak, but Paramount's UK release is a joke. I could reluctantly put up with the former, but the latter is unbearable. |

People see what they want to see. The Paramount BD is by no means perfect and people have used that to like the TT better even before they had seen the actual product. The Paramount DOES have DNR, no bones about it but it DOES have grain as well. I find the edge enhancement/ringing on the TT far worse an option.
What is completely laughable is the colour issue. Those who find the Paramount boosted, they do so in comparison to the MGM DVD/TT BD, not on knowledge of the theatrical exhibition. Real Technicolor was indeed THAT saturated. The TT BD is good for DVD standards but it does not justify a premium. |

To me, at the end of the day, one looks like film, the other does not. That's paramount in my book. As you put it, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. ![]() Last edited by Roy Batty; 01-30-2014 at 03:32 PM. |

You're also ignoring the fact that the TT shows more image on all sides of the frame and isn't vertically stretched, and the latter aspect gets more and more obvious the more I watch and compare the two. |

The red dyestuffs in common use around that time period had different degrees of colour fastness, and so it would be extremely unlikely that all uniforms would be the same shade of red. There is also the phenomenon of metamerism to consider.
If anybody who has visited a museum is comparing either release to what they saw on display, they should consider that the curators have probably chosen to display a uniform that conforms to the 'recognised' colour of a British Army uniform, under the lighting conditions in which it is being displayed. The same uniform could look very different in daylight. I would say that is is difficult to say which release has the most 'accurate' colour. |

Have you never bought a shirt, only to get it home and realise it wasn't the colour you thought it was? What red on this chart is the closet to the colour of British Army Red? http://www.ralcolor.com Last edited by BJQ1972; 01-30-2014 at 07:06 PM. |

I kind of agree with mr. Goofnut about the colors, the DNR'd transfer looks more Technicolor-like to me, judging by the captures (admittedly not something I'm fond of doing).
So, still no version I find particularly appetizing ![]() |
