This is the moment when I tell you to blind buy Luc Besson's The Professional on Blu-ray and you'll realize how strange it was not to own this movie on Blu-ray after watching this masterpiece.

Gary Oldman hardly acted in a British speaking role. He's known better for his American roles.

Loved that one!

I never knew he was British, and I've been watching his films since I was a kid. I thought he was putting it on in Lost In Space.

He's seriously great. I called him a "chameleon" as a kid, because he just absorbs his roles. I thought Commissioner Gordon looked like someone reached into the comic and just yanked him out. I didn't even see Gary Oldman through the role when I watched the first one in cinemas. Perfect!

How did you quote me before I posted? Sorry, I was having trouble with the picture and reposted.

Yeah, he's so incredibly versatile. I really hope to see him in the new Star Wars movie.

You're absolutely right. There aren't too many actors who completely disappear into the role, but Oldman does it in almost every role. It's almost hard to believe that the villains in "The Fifth Element" and "Air Force One" and Gordon in the Batman films are played by the same actor. Even his villains are totally different from each other. And his Sirius Black was a different character yet again and so was his Dracula. Even Meryl Streep doesn't disappear the way he does. Brando did it in The Godfather. DeNiro does it to a certain extent, but we still always know it's DeNiro. I can't think of anyone else. Even Dustin Hoffman doesn't disappear like Gary Oldman does. Ben Kingsley sometimes pulls it off.

I think Oldman is the most unheralded great actor working today.

Gary Oldman's performance in True Romance is the one that really blows me away. Talk about a transformation..wow. For a guy that comes off as so friendly and affable in interviews he can really turn on the menace when it is called for. One of the top 10 working actors IMO.

I hope the casting of the young characters is inspired and not the safe predictable choices of Chloe Grace Moretz, Miles Teller, Zac Efron etc.

I dont think it will be. Look at the young people he cast in Super 8. Almost all unknowns, and they did a phenomenal job.

But those names were called by the production for roles.

That was one of Oldman's best performances.

Predictable doesn't have to mean bad. Remember for a lot of people, including myself, those young actors have no name value as they are from a Disney background for the most part and that means nothing to an adult audience. As long as they fit the part, I don't care who they cast but considering it is Disney behind it, there is always a chance you will see someone with a Disney background in the roles.

With Gary Oldman, could be interesting. I haven't watched a ton of his work but I know it usually gets recognition so adding him probably won't hurt the movie unless they decide to do something dumb and cast him as a stormtrooper

Disney's not casting the movie, LucasFilm is. Disney doesn't cast the Marvel movies, they don't cast the Pixar films, and they won't be casting the Star Wars films.
