It has a "multi-out" like the old PSX's had. You can get a cable from sony that will either output, RCA,S-Vid, or component with proprietary output from the PS system.

Excuse my n00bness, but what is a PSX? I've seen it mentioned here numerous times.

the x is a substitute for any of the numbers for a ps system. eg. ps1, ps2, ps3
the psx is the whole "family"

I don't recall Sony making ED plasmas. I thought they were all HD.

When flat panels were first out Sony was making both LCD and Plasma. LCD for under 30" and Plasma for over. The ED set was a KE32/42M1 from what I remember, would have been 4 years ago or so.

To the OP, if your model is this set, buy yourself an HDMI cable, there is 1 HDMI input.

+1. There are plenty of el-cheapo HDMI cables out there, and since the PS3 doesn't have HDMI 1.3a or b then any cable should do just fine.

That being said, I've heard murmurs that the PS3 can be upgraded to 1.3a/b via firmware, but I'm not sure it's that simple. Does anyone know for sure?

First off, the Blu-ray DVD is still stated incorrectly. DVD is the enemy of Blu-ray so saying Blu-ray DVD is like saying a Nazi-Jew. Just because the format is a disc does not make it a DVD. Would you say CD DVD, Laserdisc DVD, UMD DVD? No. So please try and get people away from saying Blu-ray DVD. They must be educated properly so the whole world doesn't start calling things by the wrong name.

Secondly, the Official Sony PS3 HDMI cable is 1.3a certified so I would find it hard to believe that the PS3 itself isn't 1.3a compatible.

I'm pretty sure that's a hardware issue.

PS3 has HDMI 1.3a out of the box. This has been known since 2006

Never heard that before. Ive seen psx as the dvr ps2 that never made it to the states. I also seen psx to make reference to the Playstation (1), but I never seen psx to reference all three.

It makes sense I guess. Algebra.

You are correct. It typically was specifically used as a flashy alternative name for the PS when they redesigned it to the thinner version and the PS2 was king.

I thought PSX was the original name for the Playstation...

In fact, I am sure of it... They dropped the "X" not long before launch IIRC.
