that is very strange. just a little bug by the sounds of it. game systems are known to have em... if it happens again contact sony about it, but if its an isolated incident no worries!

on a side note, the display XBOX at my work bricked itself for the 4th time today

So far haven't seen this type of problem with any playstations. PS3, PS2 or PS1. They seems to be highly reliable. Check whether your hard disk is full?

I agree with you, we've watched multiple movies in a row and never a problem. From BD to SD, NO problems!!

Yes. It shouldn't be. But I thought that it is a possibility for PS3 to record details of the BD on the hard disk. At least this would be done in some cases such as resume play.

the only freeze up problem i had w/ the PS3 was in the XMB, but found on here that it was from that information bar (the orange thingy), so turned it off and all was fine!

Meh, PS3 boxes were locking up left and right when they were released. I still see Gamestop's box locked up on a regular basis.

I'd guess it was disk caching or just a weird error. Check and see how much free space you have on your hd and consider deleting some stuff.

Reminds me of an article about how the first demo's of X360 games were done on Apple's G5 Mac.

Edit: Here is one such article.

i havent had this issue, but the issue that drives me crazy is why I cannot view movies through my receiver, then to my TV

I have attempted connecting the HDMI from the PS3 to my Harmon Kardon AVR-347 receiver, then to my Mitsubishi WDY-734 TV, and get nothing

however, when I connect the HDMi directly to the TV, and then use the Optical cable directly to the receiver, everything works fine.

this is acceptable for the vast majority of current bluray movies, but with 7.1 becoming more and more common, the only way to truly achieve that sound is through the HDMI, hence my issue.

If anyone has any info they can shed on this, it would be greatly appreciated, as I know i'm not the only person i know who has this issue

thanks

Next time create a new thread, rather than sidetrack an existing thread.

With the PS3 hooked up to the tv, search for the 24p setting, it's probably set to "auto" and needs to be set to "off".

Yes. This seems to be a setting issue in the PS3 and/or AVR. Check whether there is HDMI direct pass through mode in the AVR. If this is the case, AVR should work as a standard HDMI switch box and therefore if PS3-TV works, adding AVR should not make any difference.
