Just out of curiosity since we're on the topic, I'm going to break down my favorites by year:
1. The Thing (1982) 2. Evil Dead 2 (1987) 3. Jaws (1975) 4. Alien (1979) 5. Let The Right One In (2008) 6. Re-Animator (1985) 7. The Fly (1986) 8. The Wicker Man (1973) 9. Deep Red (1975) 10. The Exorcist (1973) 11. The Brood (1979) 12. Don't Look Now (1973) 13. Halloween (1978) 14. Hellraiser (1987) 15. In the Mouth of Madness (1994) Looks like I'm another who's drawn to a specific era ![]() (and yes I realize I don't have Psycho, Suspiria, Friday the 13th or whatever anyone else's favorite is on my list) Last edited by jthefrank; 02-13-2014 at 09:51 PM. |

I'm blessed by the fact that I'm completely oblivious to "messages" in movies.
I've never seen a movie with a message. I love GINGER SNAPS as an original take on a werewolf story. If there was a message, allegory or subtext, it was gloriously lost on me. That's why I find it so easy to like movies. Like that old Hollywood saying, "If you want to send a message, use Western Union". |

I think "Phantasm" is a rather important film in regards to the sci-fi/horror genre. It was love at first sight the very first time I saw it. Very great cult film in my opinion, very original, very cool characters. I think it's absolutely worthy of any horror/sci-fi fan's collection.

I liked Ginger Snaps because it was unique. I didnt even know it was a Werewolf movie. But there were too many squeamish scenes for me...so Im passing on it
I can watch heads get ripped off, zombies opening up a human body, slasher movies, Cannibal movies, gory giallo films, but I just am not into people peeing blood, graphic vomiting (or anything pukey) and piercings being pulled out. It's a little to realistic I guess for a *reel* movie. You dont see zombies exposing peoples intestines every day - that's what I mean about real and *reel* I do like Phantasm a lot better ..better than a lot of stuff that I have. I dont think it's in my top 10 but its close or near it. My favorites are Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Psycho, The Birds, Halloween, Deep Red, Tenebrae, The Exorcist, The Fly, Mimic , The Thing, Curse of the Werewolf, and then we get to the early Argento, Universal and Hammer horror movies |

After that watch the early films, Phenomena, Inferno, and if you really like his stuff, start going into his later films. As much as I love Phenomena I wouldn't reccomend it as a starting because its rather different for an Argento film and bat shit crazy. |
