I will try the multi-channel, because that seems like it would be more 'pure' sounding than neural.
Neural mode is not a true audio format. its a processed signal. You should run Multichannel...

+1 The 605 is easily one of the best 'bang for the buck' receivers on the market.

Thanks. I'll switch it to 'multichannel' and quit using Neural.

I watched Twister last weekend and I watched specific scenes just now and I can tell that the Multi-channel is MUCH better. Thank you, everyone.

Be sure to set your Listening Mode Presets for each type of audio.

Here's what worked best for me:

Analog/PCM = Direct
Dolby Digital = Dolby Digital
DTS = DTS
D.F. 2Ch = PLIIx Movie
D.F. Mono = Mono Movie
Multich PCM = Multich
192k/176.4k = Direct
Dolby TrueHD = Dolby TrueHD
DTS-HD Master Audio = DTS-HD MSTR
DSD = DSD

Using this setup, the receiver decodes what it should, and uses a direct audio for the audio that is already decoded by the player like Dolby TrueHD, DTS Master, and Uncompressed.

I don't want to confuse things, and crackinhedz is probably correct about setting to multichannel. I just bought an Onkyo TX-SR805 over the weekend (im at work, no manual), but if I recall multichannel only functions with optical or digital coax and not HDMI? I do rememeber in the manual that DTS-MA and Dolby Tru-HD came via bitstreaming and that the reciever did do 7.1 via PCM. I am sure the 605 functions similiar to the 805, If I am correct and you bitstream from your Sony BDP then you should see the DTS-MA or Dolby Tru-HD light up on the 605 display as the reciever would do the decoding vice the BD player. In my setup I am using a 60gb PS3 running Linear PCM since the PS3 only decodes DTS MA/Dolby Tru-HD in PCM not Bitstream. I know i am getting the codec my checking the display on the screen from the PS3, my 805 only shows that it is receiving the PCM signal although the movie that is playing is in fact in DTS MA or Dolby Tru-HD (if recorded on BD). Hope this helps?

The BD-S300 cannot Bitstream TrueHD and Dts-HD MA either.

It can decode TrueHD internally (HDMI only)...with the latest firmware update.

I see you use PLIIx Movie for D.F. 2ch. Why PLIIx Movie instead of Neo6Cinema?

The Sony definitely does not output DTS HD Master and I think it does not output Dolby True HD (I read that the latest firmware update is supposed to allow Dolby True HD but the Sony will never output DTS HD Master). if you bitstream the Sony outputs, it will only be feeding regular DTS and Dolby Digital to the Onkyo.

According to the Onkyo website, TrueHD and DTS-HD MA are output from the player through PCM.

the Sony 300 does not have an internal decoder to convert DTS HD Master to PCM. it will transcode the DTS HD Master signal to its core DTS signal.

Does that mean that I'm getting less quality in sound than if it was decoded correctly?

I've found that the signal comes in as Analog/PCM instead of Multichannel PCM. Does anyone know what I would set the Onkyo 605 to to get the Multichannel signal? I'm trying to watch 3:10 To Yuma, and the signal is coming through as stereo, not 7.1.
