Cameron? You mean James Cameron? Because James Cameron is not a good writer.

The only mistake made in the script on that part is to not make it more explicit for people who lack imagination and always look for "hair on the eggs".
+1. Yes it had a few holes and a few loose ends but just about every film (especially modern films) have if you care to look for them. Prometheus got really picked on for some reason whereas other films (*cough* superhero films *cough*) seem to escape this despite being far more ridiculous and unrealistic.

Great chart, but I hate they got the Dune quote wrong. It should say: "The spice! It's in everything here!"

You have no idea what kind of films I like, so please don't accuse me of lacking in imagination. I'm a huge sci-fi fan and have been since I can remember. Some of my favorite sci-fi films are Moon, Silent Running, and Solaris (loved the book also, which I read before I saw the film actually), just to name a few to give you an idea of what I like. The original Alien was stellar. I also enjoy sci-fi action films, as long as they're willing to try and at least make some sense. I don't lack imagination. This films lacks common sense. That's the problem. I don't need things dumbed-down for me. But I would like a coherent script with scenes that make some sense.

Jim, I think you missed the Man of Steel minefield. I believe hatchet salesman set up camp there.

It's saying he didn't write much by following a preexisting template.

I only meant that the "picking on" in that thread made the Prometheus haggling look like a sixties lovefest.

Does that mean you can also say that Frank Herbert, whose "Dune" is widely recognized as a major sci-fi classic, "didn't write much by following a preexisting template"? Granted Dune predates all the examples on the chart but it's not hard to find earlier stories that fit the template of someone from a more "civilized" culture (or at least one more like that of America or Europe) "going native" and becoming a great leader of some foreign tribe, both sci-fi stories like the Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter series, and probably also plenty of stories in more historical settings (not as familiar with this type of literature but I think the original Last of the Mohicans novel would fit). TVtropes.com lists a bunch of stories about white guys going native and becoming leaders of foreign groups on their Mighty Whitey page. Of course, the whole TVtropes website is pretty good evidence that any story you can think of draws on pre-existing tropes and templates to a large degree.

I finally got the BD and just saw some of the deleted scenes. They should have worked with axe scenen instead of what they kept. I loved that she fought back and at the same it pays homage to the shining.

Prometheus is what it is and can't be rescued by any of the deleted scenes I saw, but you are right. The Axe fight, the extended conversation with the engineer and the extended opening all should have been left in the film. Ridley also should not have changed the designation of the planet to something other than LV426 at the eleventh hour.

Even if the inclusion of this stuff wouldn't suddenly make it a great film, it would make it a better and slightly more coherent in my opinion. And after discussing it with people over the past year and a half, I'm convinced a little coherence can go a long way when it comes to Prometheus.

According to the list we owe it all to Dune and the other movies suck lol

As for Prometheus... Amazing film. Top 5 Sci Fi. It leaves so many questions on purpose... Sequels he is building a universe like Star Wars. They did not explain anything in them and nobody complained. If you watch the amazing 'furious Gods' documentary (whatever it is called) it explains a ton. Prometheus is a solid 10/10 for me.

2001 is an example "leaving questions unanswered and up to individual interpretation" done perfectly and has people still analyzing it 46 years later and it will be discussed for decades to come which will NOT happen with Prometheus. 2001 leaves questions unanswered in a calculating way because kubrick and clarke knew it would be way more effective to let you arrive at your own answers instead giving them to you, prometheus just did it because its lazy and ridley scott wanted another pay day, he probably didn't even know the answers is most likely the reason so many things were open to interpretation, not because he's some genius. I was so pumped for this movie, I wanted to love it, the cinematography was gorgeous and it had lots of potential and it just completely falls flat.

I was initially disappointed that there wasnt a longer cut but having watched all the deleted scenes a while back, I realised that most of them wouldnt enhance the film. One or two would have been nice but not all.

I couldn't get into this movie at all! I've tried watching it all the way through a couple of times, to no avail. I'm just going to lay all the cards on the table! Prometheus was tedious, nonsensical, boring and slow. It's an insult for Prometheus to be allegedly correlated to the Alien franchise.. I am not a person, who easily gets lured into all the overly hype, and inordinate advertising of promoting big budget, blockbuster movies, and automatically thinking it's a great film, but in reality, the movie is a hot mess.
