The Half-Terabyte Playstation 3 (500GB PS3)

I put 320gb in one of my PS3's recently and it shows as 298GB available to use.

I have another PS3 that will get the same treatment shortly. However, I will only use another 320GB drive.

I'm actually going to buy an external My book Western Digital 1TB external for mass storage as it matches the PS3's black glossy finish. You only need internal storage for game data, movies and pictures. Storing music on there is a right pain in the ass.
