I'm anxious to see how far into A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons they go this season. It seems inevitable that Theon, Bran, & Brienne's stories this season will venture into those books' material (and perhaps Daenerys as well).
In the case of Brienne, I think it's a great thing to do since many people seem to regard her section in A Feast for Crows as rather dull, even though I don't necessarily agree (not surprising, given I quite like AFFC on the whole). Mixing her story in with the more plot progressive events of the latter half of ASOS will minimize these complaints I think (as will the more streamlined pacing inherent to the tv show). |

They have kind of made a bit of a logistics puzzle by not moving all the arcs together at the same pace. For example, The Wall seems to be moving at book pace so it would hard to push Theon too much because the two stories bump together. Maybe that's what the Yara comes to the rescue thread is supposed to do. They have a lot more freedom with pushing Dany's story forward because she doesnt bump into anyone until Tyrion. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

My problem is that I blitz-read the books over about three months (there was a short break between the first four books and when ADWD came out, and I filled that with the Dunk & Egg novellas) and I have a hard time remembering what events happened in which books. It all feels like one really long book to me (as it should, I suppose).

Also, the events in the book are not strictly linear. Stuff in the beginning of Book 3 takes place during certain events at the end of Book 2, Books 4 & 5 overlap, etc. So D&D have some leeway in terms of the structure of the series.
As far as Brienne's story goes, I'm not sure how that will unfold. At first I thought they'd have her run-in with the Brotherhood be the introduction to Lady Stoneheart. But they can't have that happen until Jaime is in the Riverlands, since the next time we see Brienne is when she finds him and asks him to go with her (unless we're not going to see her for a good deal of Season 5). Not to mention that Podrick has to join her, and I can't see that happening until after Tyrion's escape. Like I said, I'm quite interested to see how D & D weave these story threads in the upcoming seasons. Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 03-23-2014 at 09:09 PM. |

I wouldn't be so sure. Trailer editing can be deceiving.

I was worried I wouldn't be satisfied with the premiere episode considering the joy that awaits us next week

I'm not sure what's going to be more entertaining, the Red Wedding reactions or the Purple Wedding reactions
![]() The one thing that's going to be slightly disappointing though is that we won't have much time with Oberyn. ![]() Last edited by Edword; 04-07-2014 at 10:05 AM. |

![]() At least he'll have one hell of an exit. ![]() On another note, can I just say hooray for Jon getting some extended dialogue in the episode. Being a quiet character in the books is fine, but in the show I feel it's come at the cost of really meaty character development. You got the sense in his scenes that the character has really changed since heading Beyond the Wall. Kit did a great job, and I hope this more vocal Jon is one we'll be seeing from here on out. With the introduction of Oberyn and the Dornish, I really hope we get to see more of Dorne in the show. I know they'll be streamlining a lot of stuff (if they keep to the 7 season plan), but the casting really just brings some of these characters to life so much - and I'd love to see them go there.
Also, even if they don't focus too much on all the political stuff in the Iron Islands, I do hope we see the Greyjoy uncles. Depending on who they cast, those roles could leap much more off the screen than they do off the page IMO. Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 04-08-2014 at 01:42 PM. |
