I think some people aren't smart about it. An Arcade with the 120GB HDD costs more than the Elite with the 120gig HDD included.

For me, I actually set out to get a 360 even after knowing most of the PS3's capabilities. In fact, if I found an 80 gig PS3, I would have gotten that instead. I figure if I can't play my old PS2 games on a PS3 I may as well get the 360. Blu Ray capability wasn't important to me, since I have a stand alone and I don't have an HDMI receiver. Since I didn't want to drop an extra $500 to get one at the time (and still don't) there was no incentive for the PS3 in my eyes. It came down to who carried the most games I wanted to play at the local Walmart that I bought it at. The PS3 had less games I cared about than the 360, so I got the 360.

And I'm VERY happy with it. Probably as happy as I would be with the PS3, to be honest. But I admit that I really like the 360 controllers and racing wheel MUCH better than what the PS3 offers, and I can use the 360 controller on my PC when I'm running those games.

As for price cuts, I think the 360 & PS3 systems need to come down...as do the price of games. If a PC version of a game is selling for $29.99, and the 360/PS3 version is selling for $59.99, then something isn't right there.

I have no idea which model of 360 sells more. My only point is that you can buy a 360 cheaper than you can buy a PS3. However, this is not a cut on the PS3, since I think you get more for your money with the PS3.

That is true, but our point is that on the average transaction, it is not actually cheaper. Right now you CAN also spend more on a 360 than you CAN spend on a PS3.

I have no idea what the average 360 transaction is, but the fact is you can purchase a 360 for less than a PS3. And those people who are buying the 360 Elite are probably not the ones complaining about the price of a PS3.

Like I said earlier, I purchased a 360 (actually 2), and paid only list price - nothing extra. And after about 2 years of enjoying them, I still haven't felt the need to purchase anything extra for them.

Right now you can get a 360 for less than a PS3 - you cannot get a PS3 for less than a 360 unless you purchase a bunch of unneeded stuff with it. If someone is complaining about the price of a PS3, and goes out an buy an Elite, then price was never really an issue for them - they just don't like the PS3.

The ps3 outsold the 360 last month? What NPD report did you read?

For the year so far the PS3 is ahead. This is terrible news for Microsoft, it means that they aren't winning a single market so far in 2008.

How is the bad new for MS, and not just expected? The PS3 is new, and most people who want a 360 already own one since it has been out for so long. I bought 2 PS3s this year - but not because I don't like the 360, but because I already bought my 360s over a year ago. Plus, for a system that has been out for as long as it has, the 360 is still selling very well.

When the PS4 or Xbox 720 or whatever comes out, they will also beginning selling more than the current offerings. That is how this stuff works.

It's not just about which one is still selling and which one isn't. It's about which one sold more in the same timeframe as the other. I think people are trying to say that the PS3 sold more in its first couple month comparing to the 360 in its first couple month.

Of course in total the 360 sold more, but that's because it came out first.

It's like a race, right now the 360 may be ten lap ahead of the PS3, but the PS3 made it to the finish line quicker than the 360 on its first lap. The situation is getting worse because the PS3 is catching up on the race.

That shouldn't even happen since the 360 got a WAY head start. Unless the other runners are faster.
In this case, it's the Wii and PS3.

Well that would be really bad even worse .. as it would leave them with sales of millions less than the original Xbox.

Will you can't forget about those people who need to purchase a new one when theirs breaks. Also, don't you think the PS3 will sell many many millions less than the PS2? That shouldn't say anything negative about the PS3.

It is a fairly simple process to upgrade the HD in the PS3?

I don't know the total size limit, but I know you can go up to 200GB.

I've even heard some people got theirs up to 300GB. Or more.

Probably will .. although the broader target market as a multi-media hub may also add new consumers.

Well if they dropped 20% of PS2 numbers they still sell ~100 million.
If the 360 gain 20% over the Xbox they sell ~30 million.

1. Use backup utility under system settings
2. Swap drives.
3. Format when prompted
4. Restore backup

There are more details on the forum plus videos on the internet giving more explicit details.

I would be completely shocked if the PS3 sold over 50 million - which would be a huge number. I think BD drive is what is helping the PS3 sales so much right now, but once standalones become a better alternative, I think PS3 sales will start dropping.

And thanks for your help with the HD question. I would love to use the PS3 as a video/music server, but the current HDs are too small. Sounds like the upgrade will solve this problem.

As a BD player, perhaps, but as a game console, I think it will rise. By then I'm sure there will be a huge library of games. The price will go down as well. You may say people buy PS3 for BD right now, but who's to say gamers wont buy into it as a game machine in the future? Only time will tell.

The xbox and PS2 were pretty even in their respective sales curve until I think the 3rd year or so. A slim-line PS3 version is very important in particular for the Japanese market. That will definitely be a milestone. And definitely the American economy and the global economy will count for much as to the final counts.

I just think the BD drive is messing with the curve right now. I certainly believe the PS3 will continue to sell well, I just don't think it will come close to the PS2 numbers.
