I was going to ask if there are any figures for the PS3. I would be interested in seeing figures across the world for each week past the release of the new PS3 40gb.

It's seriously probably only a momentary bump

360 and PS3 will likely approach parity now though

Halo 3 has caused the Xbox 360 to kick PS/3's ass in America. Although, as Wicky says, this is probably a temporary blip. But, why isn't Halo interesting elsewhere?

As the OP says, the PS/3 beat the Wii by a bit in Others, and was 2x Xbox sales outside America (Japan + Others).

Also, notice how low the console sales are in Japan.

What we're seeing is the "gotta have it" satisfied, and everyone else is saving for Christmas

Halo 3 will give xbox 360 a temporary bump, but the majority of consumers tempts to invest for a longer term values. European are generally cool headed and emphasizes on values. They are not going to buy a machine just for one hot game. PS3 has a lot more features as well as long term staying power than xbox 360 or Wii. It is a multifunction home media center -a HD game console, a top rated BD player, a digital video recorder (with PlayTV), PSP partnership, 3DHOME on-line, 64bit Linux PC (great value for developers). For $399, it is a tremendous bargain even without the on-going FREE discs promotion. For any logical minded person, it is a no-brainer's buying decision. It will cause a major sales surge in the US market also once it is shipped in early November.

I'll agree that the Euro consumer tends to be less impulsive, and that the extra features help them justify it better

But there are plenty of good 360 games for them

It is absolutely true. That will keep it going for a while until PS3 games are catching up. But PS3 has two personalities - PS3 game console and PS3 BD player. They keep each afloat since day one. PS3 was the cheapest 1st generation BD player when it was launched while people wait for games. Now it is the cheapest 2nd generation BD player while people wait for more games. Sony has made a brilliant decision to include BD player inside. It is a great marketing decision. While people are waiting for games, PS3 put Blu-ray on the map and corner HD DVD down to the dying path.

Man alive, is the DS a machine or what? Never slows down, never lets up, just #1 #1 #1 #1 in all regions, for all weeks.

The PS3 will start outselling the 360 and Wii in the US soon too (I think). Once people realize its full potential and use, and are able to justify the price it will sell. The Wii (which I have, and don't really like), is great for parties or for playing with others, maybe more of a trend than anything or a curiosity. The 360 is selling cause it has good games for now, but once studios start focusing more on the PS3 they'll forget the 360 a bit.

Having recently gone nuts and bought me a Big 50" TV.

I was leaning toward PS3 per blu-ray ...but

As a programmer and a pc & mac person, Im not interested in what console has the best graphics...but which one has the highest playability.

It so happens that despite the ps3 & xbox being better units...that Wii seems more playable... mostly due to being geared toward simplier games and more interaction.

Im actually figuring on getting both a PS3 and a WII.

Btw, I am a longterm buyer... I do not buy for the heck of it.
Ie; for example both my pc's & tvs are old... TV is 13+ and pc is 12.

despite age my pc is upgraded enough that it outcompetes messy 1.3 ghz pc's ....as proven recently when a friend had a pc 5 times faster yet runing at 10% of my pc...

If Blue-ray was on WII and not just PS3 - would likely go WII only.

Nintendo owns handhelds. Always have, probably always will. While I know there are people that buy PSP games, I don't know anyone. Everyone I know who has one uses it as a media/emulation playback device

It's bad enough that they have a spinning optical disc in there. As iPod has shown, and game systems take a lot more beating, it's just not a good idea at all because HDs do not like to be bumped around while running

Speaking as someone who's a bit farther along the same curve(HDTV, Wii, PS3), I can tell you the Wii is largely overrated.

I have a 50" HDTV and my Wii isn't even in the same room. Games at 480p look pretty horrible when upscaled to 1080 resolution. I simply cannot stand playing Wii or PS2 games on my HDTV; the upscaling artifacts are simply painful - my Wii got shuttled into the spare bedroom with the PS2 and my old CRT TV.

As for the games on the Wii... aside from a few standout first party titles (Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl), there's nothing incredibly "must have" on the Wii if you're not a casual gamer.

Of course, you can sort of say the same for the PS3, but at least with the PS3 there are signs of greatness. Oblivion, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, and a bunch of upcoming games like Unreal Tournament 3, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 round out a much more balanced game roster for the PS3 - and it'll actually look nice on your HDTV.

i disagree that there are no good third party wii games i think both godfather and rayman raving rabids are good. theres a couple other ok ones but yeah nintendo produced games will always dominate the market on there systems.

I am glad to see the ps3 picking up steam. hopefully its not a just a one week thing lets hope its the start of something.

I have a close friend with a WII on a 42" LCD that I get to play pretty often and I can tell you...

The WII sucks.

No offense to the 'core' gamers out there who like the old school feel. I truly do respect that and appreciate the affinity for that style of gaming (I've been gaming over 30 years myself). But, time does move on. The WII didn't.

One gimmick in a controller does not a good console make. Especially when the PS3 _has the exact same gimmick_ in it's controller (yes, it is exactly the same, just not used the same... well, soon it will be in some titles).

I don't think I could ever justify a WII myself, as what the above poster mentioned is true for me too... It really just pains my eyes to look at it now and I have a _lot_ more fun playing games on my PS3.
