So is the upscaling a setting on the 605/805??? Mine is only upscaling my DTV (no I haven't upgraded to HD on that yet) to 480p... So is there a setting on my 805 that I need to change to get it to upscale to the 720p???

I'm a proud owner of the 805! Awesome piece of equipment and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for A/V receiver under $1k, I have it hooked up with:
Klipsch RF-62 towers
Klipsch RC-62 Center
Athena rears
SVS NSD PB12/2

the sound is crazy good! I had a Pioneer 1015tx prior to this and all I can say is, I'm I glad I spend the money! if anyone has any questions about this, don't be shy to PM me or just reply here!

so lets say I connected my Nintendo Wii to the Receiver.

Wii > Component cable (480p) > Receiver (Onkyo 805) > HDMI cable (conversion @ 720p) > TV

(the Onkyo 875 will upscale the conversion @ 1080p)

...now If I connected the PS3 using HDMI only it would stay at designated resolution.

PS3 > HDMI cable (1080p) > Receiver > HDMI cable (1080p) > TV
Sorry for the derailment but...Good Grief! All this time, and I've completely ignored the option of buying a receiver to upscale some of my other goods!

I am waiting for may 9th! I went to Onkyo.com and compared the 705 and 805. I prefer the specs for the 805 over the 705. And the weight difference due to the amplifier section is 25 pounds between the two. The 705 is about 23 pounds vs the 805 at just over 50 pounds. The price diff between the two receivers is about $150, Check Amazon.com. I personally thick you get more bang from the buck out of the 805.

both can bitstream, but your ps3 is doing the decoding...not the receiver..ps3 can't bitstream, so it sends it out lpcm

so the 605 is not a bad buy if your on a budget and are using hdmi to a 1080p tv then right? I will have my ps3 and 360 both set to 1080p so i shouldnt have any issues right? i dont have the money for a 705 or an 805 nor do i want to spend that much on just a receiver

Default 805 and Multi Room

First off, I indeed had an 805 for a little under a year and was satisfied...with some issues:

-the unit is too restrictive on only 10 inputs only
-when using zone 2 with the same source as the theater, the audio echos, as if there is a slight delay in processing to zone 2
-no upconverting of any input to 1080p--its just a pass-thru
-xbox in component at 1080i, the unit downconverts to 720p
-the back panel for speaker connections wasnt laid out all that great

Needless to say, I did sell it off and upgraded to a Crestron system which blows the Onkyo away but is very pricey, but anything and everything is upconverted to stunning 1080p and you can connect 27 different sources

Thumbs up

first time poster, long time lurker. i want to thank you all for such helpful posts. this forum is very knowledgeable.

i have an ONKYO 605. I have an issue with audio dropouts while watching a baseball game. i have DirecTv and this also happened when i had Dish Network. i went to the Onkyo site and read the Faq's link. they have this issue with older models and never the newer models (?)

i have a Directv HD DVR (H20)

i may test the baseball game today bypassing the 605 to see if the issue is the H20 or the 605.

anyone experience this with any of the newer Onkyo Models?

btw, otherwise i love the 605 especially at the price i paid. i kinda wish i had the 705 so i could upscale some older sources such as VHS or LD.

if you dont need to upscale older formats i think the 605 is a steal!

How many HDMI inputs and outputs does the Onkyo 705 have?

I have an 805 and it is 3 hdmi in and 1 out, I think the 705 has 2 in and 1 out. You can go to onkyo.com and look at the specs on the reciever and even look at a pic of the back panel also. www.onkyo.com
