I actually use Sony SS speakers in my setup.

Granted I know there are better out there, so I don't expect miracles...but for the price, they kick ass and rock the house.

Nice crack -- I am leaning towards a complete Sony setup. Just not sure if I am gonna get the 720 receiver or step it up to the 910.

Man the more I think about it, the more I want the 3 HDMI inputs, I know the Onkyo sounds better... but not using the switch is a surprisingly big deal to me. Maybe my priorities suck, I don't know... but neither the Onkyo 605 or Yamaha have a 3rd input and I know I'll regret needing a switch. What do you think is the best if I'm willing to throw down another 100 or so for something that'll give me a little better quality and have a 3rd input?

I believe so about the 720, with the audio passing through the HDMI, according to the list on AVS if I understand correctly.

correct.

The Sony STR-DG720 is 7.1 PCM capable through HDMI.

Just went ahead and ordered the Onkyo TX-SR705. If there's one thing people on this board(and nobody I know in real life) will understand, it's how frustrating it is to regret cheaping out on a wanted feature and regretting it later. Only question I have about the Polk speakers is what to do about the missing 2 speakers? I was looking at the Onkyo setup because it had them all - and now will be the same brand as my receiver, if that has any advantage(doubtful). Maybe the Polks just run circles in quality around the Onkyos, I have no idea.

+1 I was considering the Sony DG-720 but I knew that one day I might need the decoding of the TrueHD and the DTS-HD as well as the banana-plug capable receiver. I ended up getting the Onkyo 605, and couldn't be happier.

Belay that... have not ordered the Onkyo TX-SR705 yet... trying to get it through eCOST, cause I want to just pay out of my bank account and not through my CC... and they accept paypal, but when I went into the purchasing section, they wouldn't accept paypal except through a credit card... to which there's no point of paypal in the first place....

Called their customer service to ask if I could pay with a balance and then I'd just draw the funds out of the bank beforehand.

Got an Indian woman who I could barely understand and just repeated over and over again, "you have to call paypal", she was obviously just reading a script.
