Their once was a boy named Joffrey,
Who most folks hoped would get his head cut off-ry.
Instead fell he to a wimpy poisoned drink,
Kind of fitting for such a torturous little dink.
Cheers will be heard all the way up to the ruins of Winterfell,
May you rest, uneasy, Joffrey, in a very special type of Hell.

Yes, Joffery is dead. They did a great job on his makeup.
Trying to work out who poisoned him, I think it might by Margaery when she was feeding the pie to Joffery or an outside possibility of Sansa as she had her fingers inside the cup when she passed it to Tyrion

In this version of "The Rains of Castamere" I presume the screeching in the background is meant to be wheezing. I'm not sure what version I prefer, that one or the one from Season 2

I thought it was Margaery because she was the closest to the cup, and could have slipped something in. But we'll probably fnd out in the next episode.

I don't think they'll come out and say it but there was some slight-of-hand in the episode if you go back and re-watch it.

One thing I do like about the show is that indeed they do basically leave you a crumb trail to follow - especially when you rewatch things.

I am sure this summer I'll go through the whole series again, and one thing I want to do is make a list of all the foreshadowing - there is quite a bit. I can't recall exactly when, it might have been even as far back as season 2, but Tyrion made some comments about poisoning that I think can be traced to this.

I find that most of the foreshadowing is in Tyrion's lines/scenes - it's like the little guy is psychic and doesn't know it, LOL.

It's funny, because sometimes I've wondered how Joffrey lasted this long. It reminds me of The Bodyguard - the whole "if someone is willing to trade their life for yours", not much that can really be done. That no one just opened up and slit his throat or bashed him in the head with something was just wearing on me, LOL.

I think it's fitting - they mention a few times how poisoning is a less than dignified death - exactly what the little shit deserved, LOL.

Looking back, I've always kind of thought it - but last night's episode especially - Jack Gleeson seemed to always play Joffrey as, well, kinda gay. I mean, it does make some sense - we've heard him rail before on Renly and his "type of perversion" - he did it again last night. And then we have all his truly sick perversions - not that they are typical of gay people, far from it, LOL - but one could see a psychotic gay person like I believe Joffrey was - he couldn't get pleasure from them, so he inflicted pain.

Obviously, I don't think it's really going to matter going forward - but last night just made me think it more than ever. Joffrey was just a very feminine boy - even when he was dressed up in gear and armor and trying to strut he looks more like a male fashion model than a warrior LOL. Always preening and posing.

I'm interested in if this was just a series of acting choices, or how intentional it was meant to be.

I think the breadcrumbs are there you just got to look back and the previous episode it started with Ser Dontos giving Sansa that necklace, then you had Lady Olenna putting her hands in the area when she was admiring Sansa, Joff was totally distracted trying to be a prick to Tyrion, all she had to do was lean over and open one of the jewels filled with poison then bam oh he dead.

Check out 1:13

Didn't watch the most recent episode yet.

But since season 1 I have come to the conclusion that Cersei is the mother of John Snow. Since she admitted to Lady Stark she had a kid that died at birth and Ned told the King he wouldn't say who the mother was. Since he wouldn't say I am sure it is Cersei as thats the only reason it is sensitive information.

I might be way off, but it seems feasible.

The most popular theory is that he's the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Would be pretty awesome if that's what ends up happening.

I love the version in this ep way more than the version by The Nationals. The National's rendition is much more grim and fitting for the end of the Red Wedding, but this one I can listen to over and over again (and am doing so).

Anyways, being a show watcher only, I never understood the importance of the Rains of Castamere song. But after reading about the origin on the wiki today it makes the song that much more intense. Now I know why Catelyn was getting freaked out when she heard the song during the Red Wedding. I didn't know that the Lannisters planned the whole thing until Roose uttered the words. But then there was the nod through the song that showed that the Lannisters were there in spirit. Pretty crazy stuff.

And now every time I hear the song I'll know shit is gonna hit the fan.

That was actually Sigur Ros in the episode

Also Jon Snow's mother is Ned Stark's sister Lyanna, his father is Rhaegar Targaryen, he is Grandson of the Mad King, Nephew to Daenerys

Which hasn't been printed into the books but its a good theory.

Lyanna died in a bed full of blood with her last words being: "Promise me, Ned."

As you said, this is just a good theory, but it is not fact (yet).

If true, this means, of course, that Jon Snow is Jon Targaryen and is actually highborn and not a bastard. Thus, if this theory becomes widely accepted as fact, then he has the strongest claim to the Iron Throne.

He would still be a bastard under this theory, Lyanna and Rhaegar were not married. So he would simply be the bastard of Rhaegar instead of Ned.

Yep he does have the strongest claim to the Iron Throne if this is indeed the case. My opinions on who should claim the Iron Throne wavers from Jon Snow to The Kingslayer himself. Dany is a given shes got dragons and can conquer the lands like her Father.

Jokerzwild is right he would still be a bastard.

This. But being in the middle of book 5 right now there is another factor in play. Although I still like the Jon Snow theory. And to me the title of the whole series "A Song of Ice and Fire" kind of gives hints as to what's to come.

The first book is the only one I read (I stopped after that to avoid more spoilers for myself). I won't say who she is, but Jon's mother isn't Lyanna. Unless they change it in the show. Plus I don't think the Starks are into incest. Ned would have to had shacked up with his sister...

Not if Rhaegar and Lyanna were married, which I believe they were. Targaryans have a long history of polygamy.
