Pity about the lack of extras for The Monster Club. I already have the US edition and I'll be surprised if the transfer is better.

Tom At The Farm (2013) http://networkonair.com/shop/1962-to...626706647.html http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2427892/ ![]() Adapted from the original play by acclaimed Quebecois author Michel Marc Bouchard, Tom at the Farm is the fourth film by multi-award-winning young director Xavier Dolan, who also takes the central role. Set in Quebec’s rural panorama, this taut psychological thriller centres on the ever-growing gap between city and country and the often oppositional nature of men who live there. Stockholm syndrome, deception, grief and secretive savageries pervade this brief and brutal pilgrimage through the warped and ugly truth. Tom, a young advertising copywriter, travels to the country for the funeral of his lover. There, he’s shocked to find that no one knows who he is, nor who he was to the deceased man, whose menacing brother soon sets the rules of a twisted game. In order to protect the family’s name and grieving mother, Tom must now deny his own sexuality, while playing the peacekeeper in an isolated household whose obscure past bodes even greater darkness for his “trip” to the farm... Really excited for Capricorn One if it's a new transfer.
The ITV release looks like it was telecine transferred onto string. Truly one of the most dismal Blu-Rays out there |

I've been a fan of Network for a few years, but they're getting some phenomenal releases going at the moment. I'm optimistic for a decent re-release of Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (which had a horrific Blu-ray from ITV), and even the long-awaited Hitchcock silents (minus the already-released The Lodger), which should look stunning on Blu.

I'm not sure why Network can't just make all their announcements (if you can call titles appearing on their website 'announcements') at the same time, and to announce releases 5 months ahead is a bit strange but, hey ho, there's more:

I'm pleased with The Medusa Touch as the U.S has been quite expensive since day 1 and it's not a film I want to pay around £20 for really. The Henstooth BD got a good review for PQ so hopefully this will match it.
![]() Same with Insignificance for me really. I like it but it's never been a major want so I've been reluctant to pay Criterion price for it. Not overly bothered about the extras on it and the Criterion isn't exactly loaded. BTW, wasn't this a sticky? |

That's something I'm glad about. Kind of spoils any surprises later but in the end, however small the amount, it can earn them extra and save me some money as well. There could have been a few people ready to import some of these that may now wait. I know it wasn't going to be long before I ordered Ipcress File, Monster Club, or Hands of the Ripper when it was announced.

Something I agree with tbh. Too many sticky threads. and why should some studios be more deserving than others? If a thread is popular enough, it will remain near the top anyway. They should also unsticky Arrow, BFI, and Eureka so not to play favourites. On topic: I'm happy with this early announcements! Insignificance I have on Network's DVD. Been a long time since I saw it but I was on the fence. Might have to give it another go. |

But if they are insistent on going this way, then they should keep a standard so in that regard they should unsticky Eureka, Arrow, BFi and Disney |

I would leave Eureka stickied, as we have a representative from the company. The others? Probably not.

I haven't read the argument, but I would say that companies that go the extra mile to communicate with the members of this forum should get what I suppose you could term 'special treatment' to some degree.

I would agree. I also suggested that the slipcover thread be moved to the slipcover sub-forum.

I don't agree with whoever said Eureka should stay stickied because they have a representative, because although that is great, it would be showing an advantageous relationship (IMO). Third Window has their rep here, the thread stays near the top because it's busy enough and popular enough, and that isn't stickied. I also disagree with the person who said about having a main studio thread and an individual release thread with the studios being stickied. You can still maintain a studio thread and individual thread without being sticky and if they are popular, they will again remain near the top regardless. If studio threads are stickied, it can look like favouritism (though personally I don't think this site shows any). Where does it stop? Should ITV then get their own sticky? High Fliers? Entertainment in Video? Who decides which studios should be stickied? I mean, it does tend to be the more niche studios that get stickied, but there are hundreds of niche studios out there. They should all be given the same chance on what is a really good community and one of the best (if not, THE best) UK forum for Blu-rays where than imdb-style fanboyism is kept to a minimum and there really is a lot of great discussion. Anyway, I'm mumbling away now and taking away from Network! |
