Every time I see this on the first page I get excited thinking that a release date has been announced, and then my hopes are dashed

Have to ask this again, just for the last time in 2013?

Surely this Rogers & Hammerstein release as a Box Set, would be an absolute winner, both for the studio and consumers!

Really want this, more-so than any other Blu-ray I can think of that's yet to grace my "Disk-Tray"

Any info would be very much appreciated

Doesn't matter what country!

I am starting to think that they are waiting for the anniversary of The King and I and Oklahoma, which would be 2015, the 60th anniversary of Oklahoma and 2016, the same for King and I. I am saying my prayers that they will be released sooner.

With Fox releasing more and more classics, you would think the Rodgers and Hammerstein films would be very high priority.

What I do know is this: The King and I has been restored from the original Cinemascope 55 negative, that should look outstanding, and Oklahoma has been restored in both the Todd-AO version and the Cinemascope version. Carousel has been restored using the Cinemascope 55 negative. So where are they? C'mon Fox!

I was looking at my blu-rays on my shelves and happen to glance at the musicals section, which is my favorite category. It is the smallest shelf of them all. I can count on my fingers and toes the number of classic musicals released so far. It's a very sad situation.I can't believe how many musicals remain unreleased.

I hope Warner Archive continues to release musicals, we got Gypsy and Jumbo (Jumbo is awesome as far as picture quality and sound, ah that great MGM orchestra and you get alot of it in Jumbo). But Warner has gems like Victor Victoria, Unsinkable Molly Brown, Brigadoon, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and the list goes on and on. Now that Mary Poppins came out, I am hoping for Bedknobs and Broomsticks and The Happiest Millionaire from Disney, but I am not holding my breath!

You know it's sad, every time I look at the front page of this site at the new pre-orders, there is a list of about 30-40 titles there, I have never heard of about 80% of those titles, and it's once in a blue moon that a musical appears. I see MGM announced A Chorus Line. Could this mean MGM Home Video is back in the Blu-ray game?

For my own part, thanks for such a well-considered post, Mr S.

I apologise for lifting a small part from it, but I wanted to ask a tangential question: are the Archive releases restored and optimised for Blu-ray, or are they essentially like a good TV transfer that's been made from a clean existing print? I'm hesitant to buy them with no knowledge of their quality, so any comments you can make would be appreciated.

That link doesn't work and I can't find the listing on Amazon.com if I search for it

Also, I really got my hopes up that a UK release had been announced

Hopefully we'll see a UK release around the same time.

Odd that both versions of State Fair aren't included.

Yeah it is, though I'm pleased at what *is* included. It's taken a long while of on-again/off-again to arrive, but at least it looks like it hasn't just been thrown together. (Actually, I take that back, after having seen a photo of the contents: just discs and a box? No documentation? That's disappointing, no?)

Ah well. The big question now is whether to jump on this release, at this price, or wait and see what the UK release (and price!) has to offer.

I have contacted 20th Century fox about the Blu-ray releases of these Rodgers and Hammerstein Musicals here in the U K, but have yet to receive a reply.

Angry Rodgers & Hammerstein Blu Ray collection

I have received a reply to my enquiry about the Rodgers & Hammerstein collection being released here in the U K. The news is not good and I quote from Binita Patel of 20th century Fox U K Customer Services' At present we do not have this title scheduled for release in the near future.

Thanks to Blu-ray Player Region Free machines being universally available here in Australia, I've ordered the USA version of this set.

Is this "Region Locking" still being pushed to the limit in most countries?

Really strange, as here in Australia, virtually all DVD & Blu-ray players from major companies such as Sony, Panasonic and nearly all of the other manufacturers are not only Region Free, but shipped as such from the factories of such manufacturers.

For many years now there has been no such thing as needing to have your player modified!

Not so much anymore, at least in the US. It's mostly something left to the studios. It doesn't happen so much over here anymore.

Is mainly the small companies who region lock like Criterion in the US as they only license rather than own titles and the rights holders tend to insist on region locking to support sales elsewhere. Similar issue for companies like Arrow in the UK who also now have to region lock their titles.

I have a blu ray player that is multi region for DVDs but not for blu ray discs here in the UK.
So if I want this collection and it is in region A blu ray then I will either have to have it converted or buy another machine.
Having said that they are selling the set on E bay and I have been assured that the discs are region free after all
. Please can any one else confirm this thanks.

I had a look but think I'll have to wait for a UK release as funds are limited at the moment. Anyway, I'm hoping they 'fix' the King & I before they release it here. Did you notice any colour timing issues with it?

On a positive note, I did buy Jumbo from you! Thanks for accepting my offer!

Matt
