It happened just after Jaime returned to King's landing.

At least they finally mention Oberyn and poison even if it was an episode too late. Not sure whats up with Sam & Gilly...He knows there r Wildlings coming from behind them...why would he want her Molestown? Also someone must have been up calculating all night so Dany could stand 5 feet past bow range

Seems counterproductive to his redemption arc, no?

Edit: On further reflection, maybe I'm recalling Jaime's book arc with rose tinted glasses. Though the sept scene doesn't quite unfold like this in the book, Jaime himself is not exactly Mr. Good Guy. It's just that we start to see him from his own perspective. The show, by contrast, has portrayed him as more honorable (particularly in S3). The scene tonight effectively demonstrates that this is still the guy who pushed Bran out the window.

Regardless, really creepy and disturbing stuff.
Jamie is kind of an experiment in sociology. Put him with Brienne and he acts honorable...putting him with Cersei and Tywin and slips towards the dark side.

That tracks with my experiences in real life, people revert to old behaviors and habits when around people from their past.

Last night's episode differed greatly from the books, and it's kind of annoying.

The hound robbed a famer. In the book this never happened and it goes against his character. He doesn't steal.

Jamie's scene with Cersei seemed more like rape than a semi-consentual encounter. In Cersei's POV chapters especially you know that she actually likes / prefers this sort of behavior from him, but in the book it's not so rapey.

Samwell Tarley took Gilly to the Molestown brothel- this never happened in the books and really doesn't make sense. And as to why they (the writers) don't want her at Castle Black, I don't know. Dumb.

The duel was pretty funny, but I could have done without the wangs. The slave collar thing was a nice touch.

Sandor took money from, in his words, a "dead man." That is, he doesn't give the farmer any chance to survive for very long, so in Sandor's mind, he didn't steal.

What bothers me more is that the whole scene never happened in the books, because Sandor is mortally wounded from the fight at the inn at the crossroads in the first episode this season, and Arya leaves him for dead.

In the books, it was Strong Belwas who fought the Mereen champion and beheaded him. Afterward, he defecated toward the city and wiped his ass with the Mereen champion's cloak. As such, the HBO adaptation with Daario pissing on the ground was way tamer.

I was kind of hoping she would stab him in the stomach or something and give the money back to them. As for Sandor being mortally wounded, there are some who would disagree(there is a theory that he is the grave digger on the Quiet Isle).

I was surprised to see that they included this scene, since they never introduced Strong Belwas. I was hoping that she would call Drogon to barbecue him.

I believe that Brienne saw Sandor at the Quiet Isle, too.

I figured that it would have to be either Daario or Grey Worm and not Ser Jorah or Ser Barristan. The scene did depict that Daenarys was just beyond range of the Mereen archers, which I thought was a nice adaptation of the book. I also liked it that Daario had his "naked woman" daggers and used one of them to kill the horse, but that fight was WAY too short, IMO.

It's kind of unbelievable that this season has so much more character deaths to look forward to:

[Show spoiler]
Balon, the Hound*, Lysa, Ygritte, the Mountain*, Oberyn, Shae, Tywin

Edit: * next to some names, for reasons etc. etc.

It interesting the way they keep bringing up the Iron Bank. In the books Im not sure they come up at all until Cersei decides not to pay them, which come later. In the show they r a constant topic of conversation.

Not only that, but in the books Stannis doesnt borrow from them, until after he got the Wall. Im affraid he'll be storming the wildlings with the Golden Company at his back. Which makes me think they'll completely ignore Aegon's/Lil Griff story if they do that. If I remember right they came to Westeros with him right?

Was I the only one disappointed that Belwas and this scene was not in the series I was looking forward to that because it is such a great scene from the book (especially since Belwas let people cut him before he killed them). I guess defecating on someone and then wiping their rear with the dead person's cloak was too much even for HBO

Belwas, like Vargo Hoat, is someone that might be tough to translate to TV. They definitely could have done it, but they seem to have went a safer route.

This post is full of spoilers so don't read it if you haven't read the books.

Yes, and I'm kind of getting anxious for a few of these as well. Darnet, when are they going to show them? And also, do we think that
[Show spoiler]Balon's Plunge
will be shown in the TV series? We know what episode the duel will take place in, more or less. That will set a lot of other things in motion.

I am really looking forward to
[Show spoiler]the death of Lysa and the moon door incident
which they could actually save for Episode 10; it could happen at any time. My bet is Ep. 10 as a season cliffhanger post Ep. 9 which is usually the big one.

Also, with regard to
[Show spoiler]the cleganes
, it could be made more clear or not shown at all. Interesting to see which direction they go. It would be very easy to show a glimpse of
[Show spoiler]the hound's burned face beneath the hood
to clarify that point.

I think the season 4 ep 10 cliffhanger will and SHOULD be
[Show spoiler]the reveal of Lady Stoneheart with the hanging of Petyr and Merret Frey
anything else as a big OMG moment would be idiotic

That may happen in one of the earlier episode titled "Mockingbird".

I think a lot of people believe that someone is going to fly in the mockingbird episode.

Being in the book thread I think you're safe to not use those spoiler tags. That was the whole point to this thread after all.

While it would certainly a fun reveal its kind of hard to believe they wouldnt use her at all in S4 to pull it off.
