I'm certainly not re-buying everything. My absolute favourites, particularly older movies when the difference is obvious and immense, if the transfer seems generally judged to be a good one, sure. But everything? Bollocks to that!
Yep, agreed, I tend to not bother upgrading unless the bluray really is a gigantic difference and/or adds extras, or if it's sub-10 dollars. When I'm watching something like Weird Science I don't really care if I gain slightly improved picture and audio (I know this is a special case cause the bluray is particularly awful for it, but it holds true for a lot of mid to low budget movies like that where they were never going to look very good). I can't see myself ever upgrading tons of stuff that I still regularly watch on DVD like the Naked Gun movies or tons of low-budget 50s horror/sci-fi movies (helped in the latter case since most of them probably will never make it to bluray).

Has nothing to do with being a fanboy, just wanting the best.
Just like how I favor a BMW over a Honda.
Thanks for agreeing with me. If you spend the money on electronics, you want the best possible presentation.

I understand that a lot of movies aren't on Blu, but I would rather wait for the eventual Blu release.

Respectfully disagree about the only worthy DVDs arent on blu ray yet - Is the DVD of Deadly Spawn better than the Blu ray ? Just ask anyone. Is Near Dark better on DVD or blu ray ?
Wanting the best vs what the reality is are very different and waiting for a movie to come out on blu ray - shoot if that was me Id be missing out on a lot of great stuff. I want to be able to watch the Hidden, The Fly II, Paul Naschy Werewolf Films, MST3K, Yongary, Matango, etc and they are only on DVD..some movies will never wind up on bluray. Sometimes we should be thankful about what we do get
blu ray might be better - but some films arent destined to go that route.

I would say Blu is always better than DVD by default. Picture-quality wise, at least. 1080p vs 480p...High resolution always looks better on a high resolution set.

Just my opinion, I don't want another derailment of this thread.

87% of this thread is derailed.
Yep, if you're going to spend 10k, 15k, etc... on your HT setup, you want the pro squad in the player...not the backup squad. Once the BD is available, the dvd becomes fodder...or a drink coaster.

I wonder what the people at Scream Factory think of this madness.

You don't even have to spend that much, I want to get the most out of my 60-inch screen. My set up is modest but good, I think.

To both Scream and Shout's credit, they do put a lot of material out on dvd, that has never been on dvd. So while it can't be the ideal blu-ray release, at least there is a dvd...with a possible future BD release, if time/funding allows it.
I think Scream Factory is quite happy with the the blu-ray format has treated them. They seem to have hit the ground running, and are showing no signs of slowing down.
I'm just waiting for them to enter the steelbook game!

At least we can all agree that Ginger Snaps is more important than Phantasm.

Those specs are better but image quality sometimes is marginal.

Hell no, Phantasm is a classic. Thinking about the atmosphere still gives me chills. It's the type of film that stays with you.

Maybe you were being sarcastic.

I certainly hope so... If not my last comment is even more ridiculous.

Hopefully with Phantasm V on the horizon we see more of the franchise turn up in high definition.

I'm not sure how it's possible to enjoy horror and not tolerate low video quality with many titles hard to obtain even on DVD/VHS.

Nowhere does Demons 1/2 cost "hundreds," check synapse-films.com and you might find yourself a relative bargain.

I was being sarcastic. Just reminding the good people of that two day derailment that was caused by a certain Buffy lover. But seriously... I'm just joking around with everyone.

In my opinion, Phantasm rocks (all of them but the third are masterpieces), and Ginger Snaps sucks.

I think I saw each for $80.00 on Amazon. I'm a novice when it comes to finding deals online. I have only used Amazon so far, forgive me.

The first two Phantasms are classics. The third and fourth...too DTV-y for me. I liked the third when I was younger but it hasn't held up. The fourth one I've only seen once on late night cable.

$60.00 for two movies is still really pricey. Then again, I'm cheap. They are two of my favorite movies but I'm on a budget. Believe me, I would love to own them on Blu.

Edit:
Just checked their site, each title is $45.95 including shipping.
