You do know that DreamWorks (Paramount) did a Blu-ray OPTOMIZED encode LAST year before they went HD DVD exclusive?

BD-optomized AVC encode and PCM...

so, is that the reason for the delay until September (approx)? Or was it purely commercial reasons, IOW for the money?
_______
The disc has been done since July of last year.

Like I said, it does not matter. Your still going to buy it no matter what audio track it has.

First of all, he said that the disc has been done since July of last year... not the discs.

It was authored, but never replicated.

High bit-rate AVC encode, PCM...

My guess? Taking advantage of the "step-up" in Blu-ray promotion and movie sales, as well as getting putting most of their replication ability toward D&D releases. It could also be timed with a teaser for the sequel.

ahhhhhhhh, good point. Replication waits. That makes perfect sense.

Thanks,

Finally this morning, our sources also tell us to expect an official announcement from Paramount and DreamWorks VERY soon regarding Michael Bay's Transformers coming to Blu-ray Disc later this year. We even hear the film is getting a new encode, optimized for the Blu-ray format. We'll see.
emphasis mine.

if we're possibly getting an video re-encode, it makes no sense to me that we're not going to get lossless audio.

HD DVD transformers reference quality? my ass.

We were always going to get lossless audio, though Dolby TrueHD is more likely now.

I guess the rumors of a new VC-1 transfer were correct....

Funny how this movie really is hated by some.. But as for me.. this news is great and is only step 1 of 2... as if they do not include lossless audio I will officially hate... not the movie but Paramount... include the best audio available and you will sell many more copies...

better audio = better sales..

If they do not know this then i feel sorry for this co.

Since a new encode is in the works (as well as THD), are our chances good for this to include the PiP and online content as well?

~Alan<~~~~~~Who doesn't really care about the "interactive" features, but would like for the release to have it as well...

Hey, I'm glad you liked my joke. Otherwise, I was slightly sad that I might have annoyed you.

And Wicky, I'm totally stoked that you said that about Paramount's titles. I hope other studios follow suit (ahem, WB).

The HD DVD version had TrueHD so the Blu-ray version should have it too.

The HD DVD was DD+, not TrueHD. I think it's also a common misconception that the Transformers HD DVD does not use AVC, which it does.

Take this with a grain of salt, based on the source, but Amir said that there is a VC-1 encode that is closest to the master, and an AVC encode (presumably what's on the HD DVD) that is a bit softer, but was "preferred by the creative decision makers." I don't know who that would be, as Michael Bay has expressed disappointment in the HD DVD.
