The region free German version of Shogun was released a few months ago. I have it and watched it along with all the extras. I'll bet the U.S. release is identical.

Shogun has never looked better.

Ugh, the idiots at Amazon linked the BD to some region 2 DVD version, so many of the reviews are 1-star because people couldn't play it.

The Shogun mini-series on Blu...

I have never used Amazon before but if I don't see it elsewhere cheaper,I will have to. Right now so far it is listed at B&N for $50. It looks like Best Buy has it for $60.

Love the cover art for the Blu-ray but I'm also disappointed. I half-expected Paramount to use classic art, or maybe something close to the original coverart that Paramount used for the DVD release:

Blu-ray art:

The new artwork makes it look like it's some new Japanese import movie. Kind of disappointed. But, still good news that Shogun is finally getting a BD release.

In a world of junky photoshopped coverart, we could've done worse. Just preordered!

Well, probably not but maybe.

It was wildly popular and had very broad appeal when it originally aired. It wasn't just popular among certain age groups, it wasn't a 'guy thing', it wasn't just popular among history or documentary geeks - it seemed like everybody was into it.

That said, it was thirty years ago

I'm expecting it to have aged extremely well but I haven't seen it in at least twenty years so who knows.

When it first aired I was only 10 at the time. I absolutely loved it, don't know why for sure but I did. Last year I found it at Netflix and had to relive it and see if I still loved it. Yep,it was still incredible. I had forgotten that John Rhys-Davies was in it.

It's not bad. But I've always liked this:

It would make sense for Paramount to use classic art, which is what they normally do. I'm just saying that it's odd that Paramount would use an updated design for the coverart in order to make it seem like a Japanese import of a samurai film.

All in all, it's good news that it's getting released.
