As a consultant only. To an lesser degree than a director working with an editor, it was mostly just this guy cutting the film the way he thought it would work and attempting to retain some semblance of what Donnor intended. Donnor did not supervise the cut, therefore he technically did not direct it. It was an amalgam of things Donnor shot, with things Lester shot, all stitched together by this other guy.

Besides, had Donnor been able to actually do Superman II the way he wanted, he would have had to come up with an all new ending, because he was forced to use that original ending for Superman: The Movie, which means a new ending for the sequel was needed. That's another reason why the so-called Donnor Cut does not work as a cohesive film, because it basically repeats the same ending we got in Superman: The Movie.

It's going to turn into another Mad Mad World thread. People are never happy enough with what they get, no matter how hard it's been worked on and looks as best it possibly can.

I read that Barker's original first cut was ~150 minutes. The Cabal Cut is ~160 minutes, so that's already 10 minutes of cutting room floor footage that was put back in. So, chop it back out, clean it up and restore Clive Barker's original vision.

That's what I'm getting from this announcement.

Also, I highly doubt that they won't include all the excised footage as Deleted/Extended Scenes on the eventual release.
Sounds good and maybe the Cabal Cut footage can be with deleted scenes section.

Still a 150 minute DC will be kick ass and we can see the film the way it was meant to be seen.

Any guys here thought Shuna Sussi was hot?

Indeed Darksteam, I remembered when I was 8 seeing this in the theater and seeing her pics on Fangoria it was love at first sight and I collected the comics when I was a kid and they showed more of her.

When I was a kid and a young teen I thought her with mutated Catwoman from the Tyger Tyger episode of Batman TAS (remember that episode Darkstream? one of my fave episodes and I adore Catwoman no matter how she looks like and it's the one where she was turned into a very hot nude literal cat-woman), Demona on Gargoyles, Sil from Species, M'ress from Star Trek TAS, Mona Lisa on Ninja Turtles the original toon (remember that brunette mutant lizard humanoid hottie?), Maggie from Gargoyles (remember that cute half human half cat half gargoyle mutant mix?), Cheetara and Pumraya on Thundercats and Felicia/Morrigan from Darkstalkers were the hottest creature chicks I've ever seen, LOL

Seems like you got yourself a bit of a creature fetish. lol. But, yeah, I totally know what you mean. And yes, I totally remmber the Island of Dr. Moreau-like Batman episode Tyger Tyger. --It's a great ep. I love Catwoman, too, although I prefer her less fuzzy.

Still Catwoman is hot no matter how she looks like.

Do you remember the other creature chicks I mentioned like Mona Lisa, Sil, Demona, Cheetara, Maggie and Felicia? yes I do have a bit of a creature fetish, lol.

I forgot to mention Mirage from Aladdin the series, remember her? I was in love with her when I was a young teen and she is smokin' hot.

The smoke lady in Nightbreed was quite a milf too as she had nice ones when she came out from the smoke

This will be as good as it gets when it comes to the directors cut of nightbreed. It's not like even have the option to use anything but the VHS source. I'm really interested in seeing how this comes out. There was a time when a release like this was just wishful thinking on the part of fans. Hopefully this will open the floodgates to some desirable cuts of movies that we thought weren't possible. I would gladly pay $25 for a cleaned up version of Halloween 6 the producers cut (although now a 35mm print supposedly exists). I paid $20 for a crap bootleg years ago and it was well worth it.

Just seems like there's a million questions about this or that, and they're working their ass off to meet a deadline to get this out, I don't think we'll have any answers til we've already spent our money and have the disc in our player.

I'm dissapointed that it doesn't look like the theatrical version of Nightbreed (1990) will be included with the new Blu-ray. I re-watched this recently and thought it was amazing - great story & incredible creature efects/make-up, creepy acting by Cronenberg (made more significant due to all of the horrific films he's directed), and a fantastic ending. I also liked the fact that this was set & seemed to be filmed in Canada, which made it unusual when compared to other horror films.

Sure, I definitely want to see the director's cut as well, but it's dissapointing that the original version that all of us are more familiar with probably won't be included (due to rights issues?!). Too bad, since this would have looked great on Blu...

My favorite creepy Cronenberg part is where he says "and I did it over and over and over again" makes my skin crawl. He is awesome.

I too would love the option of the theatrical cut, but I can live without it. However, I fail to see what good a new director's cut will do when the 160 min. version already shown at festivals wont be included, I hope they'll at least add the deleted scenes as extras.

I would rather have the version that Clive Barker wanted as his final cut. Apparently the Cabal Cut that had all the footage thrown back in was incredibly bloated. As great as it would be to see all that footage I would rather have a film with better pacing, one where they trimmed the fat that wasn't needed.

I too agree. I have seen the theatrical and I can watch it on DVD if I get sentimental. I want to see what Barker had in his mind....I think.

So do I, I don't think he intended for it look like a Grindhouse movie which is the way that I expect it to look partly being sourced from VHS but hopefully I am wrong but either way I will still be adding it to my collection when it comes out.

Basically the main reason for not using ALL the footage was because it included a lot of stuff which didn't really make sense. Characters died twice and stuff like that. Just using alternate takes and the like just because it existed.
I hope that these alternate takes will be featured on the disc in some form, but this will certainly be the definitive and best cut, so don't be disheartened by the missing footage from the messy first Cabal Cut.

As much as I'd love to see this, the fact that they're doing an HD transfer incorporating VHS footage dampens my enthusiasm greatly. I have the German Mediabook edition of Hellraiser III with the unrated cut and the VHS sourced footage sticks out like a massive sore thumb.
