This dude gets it. It's all about whether or not the actor or actress is right for the role; and whether some people want to admit it or not, when a character has a pre-determined look, the actor or actress look becomes important.

We don't even know what Gwendoline Christie's role is, so to start basing her value to the movie based on her looks alone is ridiculous. Incidentally, a lot of fervor surrounding her casting in GoT was that she was too pretty to be Brienne of Tarth. Yep, she was written to be pretty ugly in the books.

For what it's worth, I think Christie will be playing a Sith witch.

Well, maybe but there's a fine (and sometimes not too fine) line between fidelity to a character and hidebound adherence to what has come before.

Judi Dench made a fine M and Idris Elba would probably make a hell of a Bond. Do either fit the 'predetermined look' of the characters? No but these things aren't carved in stone.

Sure, there are times when physical characteristics are crucial to a particular character but more often than physical characteristics can be tweaked and modified without damage to a portrayal.

I suspect Mary Jane Watson's rack is in the latter category and not the former but I stopped reading Spider-Man in the late seventies so I don't really know for sure.

I'm a tad taken aback by the Lupita Nyong'o is overrated comments. To be clear, those that believe this saw 12 Years a Slave? Because that performance was incredible.

Man, I'm little disappointed & surprised at the lack of excitement regarding the casting of Gwendoline Christie! She is badass on GOT and one of my favorite characters. Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.

Yes, this! People who don't watch GOT are missing out on some of this generation's finest actors, Gwendoline Christie included! I do hope she plays a sith of some kind, in the same vein as Asajj Ventress.

That performance was meh. But I think she's very talented and a good addition to this Star Wars universe. As a matter of fact, I think the entire cast, every single one of them, is fantastic. I could not have asked for a better Star Wars cast than this. Our fanboy is on top of things. This should be something special.
