That's what is so utterly ridiculous about it. I know what you are talking about, and the truth is so amazing that it's ludicrous that A-man's little posse still believe him hook, line, and sinker. And even if they knew the truth, it would be passed off as the BDA infiltrating AVSM and trying to discredit Amir because they are worried about him damaging BD (or some other fanboy conspiracy thoery).

What a charade he has going on over there.

A big hearty welcome , (is there a welcome thread here?, I’m kinda new also), to Darinp.
He has probably been involved in more hand to hand combat with the A-man over misleading comments, misinformation and disinformation than anyone I recall off the top of my head.
I believe he was the first person I know of that revealed the bandwidth limitations of the HD DVD format compared to Blu-ray. He is not a format fanboy but a fanboy of truth and science.

He even made the internet news one time as “the detractor”

good to see this forum continue to gain the cream of the crop....

My hope is the VW60 turns out as similar tech to the RS1/HD1 with a dynamic iris bolted on to whack up the CR further, but hopefully not at the expense of ANSI CR. Oh and better control over colour calibration.

That’s another comical aspect of the whole story that people may not be aware of or had forgotten about (intentionally) on AVMS.

Cj had two sabbaticals from posting, the first was because he essentially pissed off the HD DVD side and the second was because colleagues in Hollywood didn’t like a compressionist working for a service division of WB giving the perception online (whether intentionally or not) that he was an official spokesman for WB and in that role was making derogatory comments about their work.

If memory serves, first the red dogs blamed me (for cj’s latest absence), then they blamed paidgeek, then they blamed us both, then they blamed “Blu-ray.” Paidgeek stepped in and humbly asked WB if they would allow cj to post again on ANY internet forum (not just AVMS, who think they had exclusivity to cj’s postings). I offered to do the same even though by that time, I figured that WB would do what WB wanted to do and they were pretty much tired of cj’s extra-circular online activities that had garnered complaints from every direction now.

More to follow when I have the time and inclination. I’ve got to do this story on the installment plan.

I can back up everything Penton-Man says above. I saw all of these back and forth posts before the AVSM mods stepped in and deleted most of it.

What was annoying is that it left the impression among the AVSM sheep that "Blu-Ray" (you know the sentient, evil BDA that sneaks and lives among us ) had asked AVSM to delete the back and forth because it made Blu-Ray look "bad". Most who saw this exchange realize that the mods were actually protecting the A-man in the process and that this had nothing to do with Blu-Ray.

I had a few posts deleted as part of the process. I also had more than one Insider PM me thanking me for trying to calm things down. I cannot state what was said privately, but I can tell you that cj himself was among those who contacted me.

Soon after darinp2 started the major discussion about the bandwidth issue, cjplay posted a message in the Insider's Thread expressing concern that this issue could be the Achille's heal of HD DVD.

He soon had his first sabbatical, which was ultimately explained being due to him revealing too much about upcoming Warner titles.

That had occured about a MONTH before, but suddenly it mattered when he posted a major negative statement against HD DVD.

Gary

P.S. How is cjplay doing nowdays?

I think that bandwidth is the biggest technical concern for us regarding HD DVD... for me it is anyways... CJ was right!

I don’t know.

It’s not like I would actually bump into him on the WB studio lot in Burbank because he works out of one of their service companies around LAX airport and that’s not what I would call a trendy part of town.

I would think he is actually doing quite well for himself knowing that he didn’t exclude himself from any lateral moves in Hollywood by acting as a WB spokesman when he wasn’t.

I mean Hollywood is a small community and you don’t want to burn your bridges by pandering to the A-man to get their newest and greatest goodies to play with.
You never know, one year you may be working at Uni, the next year at Sony the next year at Technicolor, etc. People tend to jump around when a better opportunity presents itself and there’s no sense in limiting your professional advancement with online silliness.

For example, I believe Jamil Tajik managed the entire DVD/VOD production workflow where cj works and before that he was employed by Laska Entertainment before that Sony Pictures and before that I think WB.

And speaking of WB, Jerry Pierce (formerly the V.P. tech guru over at Uni) is having all of his ISDCF (Intersociety Digital Forum) meetings over at the WB studio lot with the first one coming up next Wednesday.

Ah yes, Hollywood is a small community.

P.S.
Speaking of Uni, head on over to the Uni thread for two funny videos I'll post momentarily.

This is for all you insiders; I don't know if you can share with us but do you have any inside information on where Paramount stands? I mean, they have displayed distaste over this format war before, is there any chance they might go Blu-ray exclusive any time this year?

I answered that somewhere on another thread. Check my recent old posts….. maybe paidgeek can add something.

With Sony Digital Mastering DCI (allowing independent Cap XYZ files for digital mastering for digital distribution) the recent hit Casino Royale was delivered as both standard negative (normally up to 3 copies of the Negative) and as a digital file in the DCI format for digital distribution during post production.

I’m running out of things to say and I’ll be extremely busy this week and possibly the next, so it sure would be nice to hand the baton over to one of the other insiders.....hint.....hint.

I have seen some discussions about Blu-ray having a buffer that can take the video bitrate up a little over 40mbps, if this is true, how far up can it go?

I'll put a call into Uni this afternoon (in case, I'm out of the loop on this - which I doubt) and post an answer this evening probably after 6:00 P.M. PST.

At any other time, I would ask Andy Parsons who this "Pioneer rep" is but, he mentioned to me that he was going on that Home Theater Cruise thingee put on by AVMS and I don't want to bother him while he's probably dodging sarcastic comments from the A-man between working on his tan.
And speaking about that ^^^, unbelievably, one of the first things out of the A-man’s mouth at the beginning of the discussion on the Home Theater Cruise -was indeed yet another veiled insult directed at Blu-ray. I don’t know if you could even describe it as veiled really.

I still can’t believe this guy is a v.p. !

I mean, the A-man is speaking to a well-heeled audience of what……….30 – 60year olds that are truly interested in SCIENCE and not coy noise.

So, completely discounting the spirit of gentlemanly conduct, he burps out a sarcastic comment that went over with this crowd like a lead balloon. I’m sure he thought he was being funny at the time but, that is not what this crowd was looking for, at least not my friend and his wife who were in attendance….. and especially not the official Blu-ray spokespersons.

I’m going to rant about this on that secret location only available to forum members as I might get carried away with my disgust.

Suffice to say on this thread……. which is open to anybody,
the A-man’s behavior prompted one of his colleagues to apologize to Andy Parsons for yet another case of A-man mania……..this time in the real world, rather than on the internet venue which we are all more accustomed to seeing/reading.

I can.

Microsoft looks for, promotes and encourages these kind of people. It's actually pretty standard behaviour for most of them. The fact he is there is all the proof needed.

Peter Moore is another one that behaves the same way. It's not accidental.
