Prison Break season 2, Nip/Tuck season 5, and Rescue Me season 4 are all titles that don't really have an explanation - these were new releases, so they should have come out on Blu-ray considering previous seasons were, but for whatever reason (low expectation of sales most likely), they just weren't released. Very disappointing.
Other back-seasons, however, (like Lost seasons 1 and 2) are not released yet because they are catalogue titles. The market for these is just not there yet - if brand new season releases aren't doing well, certainly ones people already have on DVD will do even worse. There's also the issue that these multi-disc seasons take up large amounts of authoring and replication time, time that at this moment is better spent on getting new releases and catalogue movies that are more likely to sell well out the door. Both demand and production capacity will hopefully increase soon and we'll start seeing some back-seasons for shows that have made the jump to Blu-ray - but it's unfortunately not realistic to expect it now. |

I am actually awaiting Seasons 1 & 2 of Lost to be released before I buy seasons 3 & 4.
I love that show and I cant wait to watch it back in 1080p. |

If you've already seen season 1 & 2, what's the harm in enjoying 3 & 4 in Blu-ray now and getting 1 & 2 when they're eventually released? |

Yeah, if you haven't seen them yet and want to wait that is totally understandable. I wouldn't want to start buying DVDs if I knew I'd eventually have them all in Blu-ray. Above, I just meant buy the Blu-rays if you've already seen the previous seasons and therefore wouldn't have to invest in more DVDs to catch up.

Previously released seasons of Lost will always sell lower than a new release. So Disney already has an upper bound on sales they can expect (given by Lost season 3's sales data). Last edited by neo_reloaded; 06-04-2008 at 02:20 PM. |
