I think if The Hound hadn't been through so much recently and had been better fed/rested he would have definitely taken Brienne. As much as I was sad when Arya left him to die miserably, I'm also holding out hope that we might see him again as a result.

I think The Hound taught Brienne a lesson, that fighting like a Knight doesn't always work on people fighting for their lives, so she learnt to fight dirty fast.

Reading the books, I always thought Arya couldn't kill The Hound as she cared for him after they'd been through so much together. Even though putting him out of his misery was the right thing to do, she just couldn't bear to do it. In the show she was pretty much emotionless walking off.
