![]() ![]() July 2014 Update: Official Netflix trailer for season 1 The show is now also posted in Netflix ("coming July 4th"), and announced as a Netflix Original Series (wonder if Netflix has co-financed? Or probably just an exclusivity agreement) http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/70301578?locale=en-US Past updates: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...in-summer-2014 ![]() This is not a new news per say (the article is from late 2012, time of the deal with Netflix), but Summer 2014 is right around the corner, the series has started in Japan on time (April 10th was the first episode), and SnK is one of my favorite mangas EVER ![]() Do you like Macross (Robotech for many in the US) and/ or Battlestar Galactica? Do you like Lovecraft's horror and Giger's visuals? Imagine ... the child of those three... ![]() Summary from ANN: Quote:
Hoping that a Blu Ray edition will follow afterwards... ![]() 2013 teaser: Promo video Last edited by Elandyll; 07-02-2014 at 08:27 PM. |

I'm a HUGE fan of Nihei's Blame! (which badly needs its own anime adaptation--that ONA thing isn't enough), and while I've only read the first volume of Knights of Sidonia, I liked it tremendously: really maintains his signature cyberpunk and bio horror style while adding a bit of a hard sci-fi spin.
I don't know how I missed that this show existed, but I'll definitely be tuning in. Last edited by Thomas Guycott; 06-13-2014 at 07:26 AM. |

I'd call Code Geass more mecha than Sidonia, and I don't consider Code Geass a mecha either. Edit: I know most people disagree on that viewpoint of CG. Last edited by SeaFox; 06-17-2014 at 10:16 PM. |

But I tend to judge more based on what percentage of the series focuses on mechas themselves. Geass spent more time on politics, drama, and school-life comedy, making the series enjoyable even by people don't like Mecha -- so it's not a mecha in my personal opinion. |

Lol, OK, well I was just doing a little "instigating" there, and not actually trolling - thus all the smileys after my comment... you guys know me well enough. Got the thread hoppin', didn't I?!
![]() Seriously though, I was actually going to say that SoK looks pretty interesting, except for the Mech. But if the mecha is as Seafox says, more of a background element and used militarily, I might be able to overlook it. Hey, I did actually buy *cough*EurekaSeven*cough* (for the romance part, anyway - haven't watched it yet, so...). Can't hurt checking this one out... So, back to instigating - Most giant mecha I just can't stomach, it's too ridiculous and far-fetched - a bunch of giant's fighting giants... so I'm definitely not an Eva fan in the least. I guess it all reminds me too much of Transformers, which to me is the most stupid thing ever gestated within a human's mind - next to the Power Rangers, that is. Oh, and Teletubbies, lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Girls With Guns; 06-18-2014 at 02:22 AM. |

This being said, I don't really think of SnK as a Mecha series either. Sure you have your semi variable mechas (but they make more sense in the way of flight vs combat. They do not fully transform), and your "test machines" for the "elite pilot" (very Macross in this way), but the elements of Futuristic Military/ Horror are much more present imo. Also, you can tell that the Mechas, while looking decent, are not where the artist has put a lot of time. They look all rather generic, but also probably more realistic in this way. You can tell the man loves his monsters (and Tsumugi is awesome ![]() ![]() |
