So he was actually nice to you?

Add me to the list of people Savini was perfectly nice to.

I read all the horror stories about him in the days leading up to meeting him, and then he seemed to be in great spirits that weekend.

Thought I'd pass on this info
So basically he's saying I like the look of the new blu-ray, but being the director I have no clue if it has the correct color timing. Makes you wonder how much control or input he had over the film to begin with.

I would imagine being Director, quite a bit.

Think it's all gotten jumbled in the back of his brain. I've heard a few commentary tracks where I have literally known more about a movie than the director. Many just shoot it and go on to the next project, think Tom is among those. Looking at the credits I have for him on dvdprofiler, he's been busy ever since!

I agree, but I find it interesting considering this is the only feature film he ever directed.

But surely he seen the Blu Ray, said he loved the colour timing so being the director that's it really.

The director, Tom Savini, had nothing to do with the change to the color timing. Someone at Sony changed the color timing for this blu-ray by looking at notes of the director of photography. The DP didn't approve the blu-ray and Sony didn't work with him directly or even show him a sample or final product. The DP saw screenshots of the blu-ray and thought it looked awful. This has been posted numerous times in this thread.

Savini had nothing to do with the new look...that was Sony's idea. Hopefully, TT can get their hand on an unblemished master and rerelease this one...it would sellout.

Agreed, I just don't see that happening. I can'r imagine Sony doing another master just for Twilight Time.

TT will not be renewing their license on this one like they are doing with other sell-outs, according to Nick, anyway. The controversy over the transfer isn't a headache they want to repeat, unless something changes.

Yes he had nothing to do with it, but has seen the TT release and loved it. Never mind though until we have a proper restoration with those involved with the movie overseeing it I guess we will never know.

I would love for the likes of Synapse or Arrow to give this one the once over.

I can understand that, they sort of boxed themselves on a corner. If they released a corrected version, the people that were up in arms over the 1st release (and wanted a re-issue) would be up in arms. Just offering a refund isn't very satisfying to people that want a corrected version. They also can't just re-release the same, much maligned blu-ray.

If Twilight Time wants to wash their hands of this one, hopefully Sony goes out of their way to correct it in house, and get the license in someone else's hands - just for the sake of putting out a corrected version.

Which version is correct? The brighter one the darker one or something in between?

But doesn't Sony have an HD master of the correctly-colored version available for download or whatever? If so, it seems like a no-brainer for TT to ask for that master, but maybe they just don't want to deal with this cursed title anymore even if it's a sure fast sell out if the correct master is used. I'm sure there would be some vocal naysayers complaining that they would have to buy it all over again, but I think there'd be a lot more happy people out there. I bought the old one, didn't return it for a refund that they generously offered for anyone to do, and I would gladly buy a corrected one. It's only $30 more to rebuy a new release, and you can always sell off the old one and make some of that back (more than that if you sell now).

From what I've come to understand, the brighter look is correct BUT Tom always wanted the film to be dark. He had to shoot during the day but wanted a look similar to that on the blu-ray, which is why (I assume) he loves the bluray release. I'm more a purist than not when it comes to film. I want movies to look as i remember them. That being said, originally I really didn't like this blu-ray but it has grown on me. I tend to adjust my tv settings slightly just to make it a little more like the original vhs and dvd releases. Never saw it in theatres but some have claimed that the original release looked a bit darker (if not a great deal) than the DVD release. In other words, I'm not really sure anyone can give you a 100% accurate answer on this one. It is truly a matter of preference.
